She’s sleeping with me tonight. She’s already asleep
She has struck me lately as an orp in body build. She definitely has a wider more muscular breast than Versace. I definitely believe she will be a larger chicken.Aster may be a mystery. Right now, at 8 weeks I would call her a orpington. She has the build of a American style orpington at this age. I want to know if the breeder who the orp eggs came from have a pen of Blue, black splash orps as well. I think you have a splash orpington instead of a lavender. Her legs look flesh colored, in the right lighting could get the pink tones orps are supposed to have. Head and comb look right on target for a orp pullet.
So far Aurora is still playing Auntie. I'm very surprised. That was my initial reaction, too - an Isbar - but splash. I agree regarding the build, as well.
Wow, @BY Bob -you may not have gotten what you ordered, but you may yet have a blue egg layer! She is a cutie (both are), and, regardless, I know she will be loved by you and hopefully - since raised as part of the flock, BOTH (hint, hint, Queen Aurora) will be accepted as FULL chickens by the flock.
To clarify, only CeeCee is allowed to use my bed. Aero is happy perched in the chickens roomShe’s sleeping with me tonight. She’s already asleep
Exactly. If the eggs came froman older hen, may show white - although I would assume it would be an off white (technically light, light blue, but look white), but those do look very white next to the white carton, so
I have had blue egg layers in their later years lay more of an off white. I haven't had green egg layers lay off white, but they have gotten much, much paler in some. And, any green egg layer can throw a blue or brown (brown more likely) egg laying chick.......so if they aren't careful about their selection based on everything (egg color, adult plumage, body type, etc.) It could be possible....though I don't know how they would get mixed in with the other white eggs unless their is poor quallity control - which could spell lots of possibilities......over time.

That's very sad. I'm sorry. So I have pulled a good one. I did not mark anywhere the date I set Raven with her eggs. I know she is over 2 weeks....I think anyway. Yesterday sadly one of the 3 eggs was broken and all that was left was part of the shell. It was upsetting because there was veining in the shell that was left darn it. These were iffy eggs to begin with as they were older and not much chance for developing.
I do not have pictures of my Buffs at 8 weeks, I went and checked.
This is the best I can do.
The first picture is about 6 weeks old and the 2nd one they are around 10 or 11 weeks.

Take away the color differences, I think Aster is looking similar to them.

Each had 2 brown eggs. Glynda only had 4 eggs and 2 hatched. I brown 1 white, I thought, but I did not take pictures. The white egg was the polish that did not survive so to me that left the brown egg. But maybe I'm not remembering correctly.
They are light brown. All of my eggs were beige, remember?

Anyone who is waiting on egg color might have a long wait. She will be 21 weeks old on November 30. That means it may be February until she lays her first egg.
