Thanks for your information and not that it matters but only one EE is going after her. She was on the top of pecking order and I do have another polish who the EE leave alone. So far, and the polish was a great layer in the beginning, she stopped after a light molt. I am new to chicken keeping so I am learning.

New to chickens? Your registration date says 2013? Did you have ducks or geese before?

Throw everything out the window about breed info cuz not only is each bird different but mixed flocks, flock size, & coop environment all factor differently. You'll know your birds best after evaluating others' input.

Hopefully we're not judgmental when answering questions. Our shared experiences may or may not always help others. & sometimes BINGO a suggestion is useful!

Our current 6 birds ~ one old Dominique we chose to keep cuz she's good w/the 5 Silkies

I will keep that in mind with my polishes. I imagine it is the "show quality" birds with the gigantic poofs that are the ones most at risk.
We had to buy another two bags of food today, they have almost eaten the entire bag of the Purina. We definitely can't afford to keep feeding it to them since it's $25/bag. 65$ in chicken food this week, that's over half of our usual grocery shop for the family!
Everyone here is really liking the Kalmbach Full Plume Feathering 20% Layer - $19 / 40lbs - and it really helped the soft shell issue I had despite real oyster shell and crushed egg shells offered on the side, which everyone also eats.
The Agway store here carries Kalmbach products, and though they don't stock the Full Plume on their shelves they will add it on to their order from Kalmbach (done every other week). So I call them a few weeks before I know I'll be out and order it. It comes right from the factory, so what's really great about this too is the bag has always been super fresh.

Speaking of 90s...my 92 year old gramma B fell and broke her pubis/pelvic bone. :(
She's too old for surgery and with her heart murmer they wouldn't even try it.
I have to wait for her to be done at the rehabilitation center and back at her assisted living home before I can visit with kiddo.
I'm very worried for her, she and I have always been extremely close.

Nocturne and her beautiful ombre egg.
Yes, losing fellowship w/an elder is heartbreaking. Prayers for her recovery 🙏

Yes I was on back then but we only had them for about 5 months and we had to give them to a friend. Family stuff.
So basically I’m starting all over and we didn’t have any polish chickens then. so I never got to experience all of this integrating and pecking and bullying .

There is a load of sad news this end

My dog is much worse. I've called a vet and it's time for him to sleep.
Plus there's news on princess. I'll fill you all in when I can . But dealing with a huge amount of problems right now.

We have heavy rain which is not helping
:hugs :hugs Doggo has had a great life with you. He knows you're taking the best care and helping him not to suffer ❤️

I haven’t left them unsupervised in a diaper. I was curious if it would be feasible but I understand now that it’s not. they have a 2 feet wide by 6 foot long pen that I keep them in when I’m at school but besides that they get to walk around, but I’ve noticed that silkies compared to other house chickens just don’t really move. I’ve tried and entice them by sprinkling seeds around and they just stay where they want to stay, snuggle by their food and water tray. It’s not like they’re scared of me. They willingly sit on me. They just don’t actively move around. 😂
Teehee! Our Silkies don't stay still! But ours are outdoors free range.

Beautiful birds! How long have had them?

Just remembered something you triggered in my mind.

There is a time of day when we notice our birds chillin' & snoozin' around mid-day after a busy morning of feasting & foraging. Mid-day whether in or outdoors they usually just lay around in corners, under bushes, not quick to come up to us.

Their busiest activity is in the morning waking up hungry & also early evening before roosting (or dogpile sleep in the case of Silkies). But mid-day is usually lazy time.
