He gave me a cheerful "bup" when I opened the door to put him to bed.

Someone picked a couple of his pins. Best not have been you, Bab!
Had to find this photo of poor Mr P when someone broke one of his pin feathers 😢😢

Poor wee fella. Those young pullets pick at him all the time now.

7th pic down, the black silkie I see as a maybe roo, mostly because of tail shape and the crest appears to be more pointy at the back.

The partridge ones I see as ALL pullets. If they were roos, they would have some of that dark red on their shoulders.

The others? get them to gather round the feed pan like a pinwheel and play spin the bottle to point at randomly.
I suspect the partridges are both girls. I remember Ezzie who was also a partridge. 4 months old that vibrant red showed up which these both lack. I also suspect I for sure have 1 solid black pullet. That right there would be a 50/50 split which for me is unheard of. I'm still not questioning though and have given up guessing. They will reveal to me in their own time who is who. Until then, like I said earlier I am enjoying them so much. They are Branch's final gift to me and they are special each and every one.

I will say I still have to scratch my head over those 2 partridge chicks. Not the fact that they are partridge, their mother is, but she is silver or grey partridge. How did I get 2 gold partridges with one of them being a moorhead? The 2 blacks, I expected, they took after their daddy thankfully. The 2 blacks with gold dispersed evenly throughout, surprising yes. I can see how it happened though as Branch got more gold in his hackles as he got older so really no huge surprise. The 2 partridges, I honestly and truthfully expected silver ones or something similar to @Ponypoor boy Clyde.

Now the big question is going to be how do I go about recreating more moorheads regularly next year. IF I get a solid black boy and a boy out of one of the 2 blacks with gold throughout which would be the best option to use.

I miss Branch so much and seeing now how good his kids look it adds a bit more sting to the wound. The Poppet x Branch cross gave me everything I wanted in a pet quality silkie. Huge poofs and half of them are also bearded and they look so nice. Branch x Chiquita produced 3 chicks. 1 was Ezzie who I loved but looked nothing like this group if I am honest. 1 was a solid black boy that I rehomed and while he looked good, again he could not hold a candle to these. And then there was "Tiger Chicken" who in all honesty is her momma's mini me and was the best looking one out of the 3. If Branch was still around when this group hit 3 months old I would have broken my word on only 1 hatch this year. Every Poppet egg I have gotten since would have been tossed in the incubator and I would have had weekly staggered silkie hatches.

Right now my incubator is down at grandma's pad-locked up in her building. I was good this year. Only 1 hatch. Next year, oh next year watch out. Every broody hen is getting silkie eggs and that incubator is going to be running for a long time.
