How about a wheelbarrow full instead of hauling bucketsShe does like to play in the sawdust. If it is not raining chicken chores start tomorrow. I have to clean the coop, it has been 4 days. She can help me by "playing in the sawdust". By that I mean filling up the 5 gallon bucket full and dumping it in the coop once it is cleaned. We will see how she does as it will take about 6 buckets to bed it the way I like.
Curly my silkie frizzle cannot fly at all, she flap his up onto the roosting ledge, but she uses a small animal crate as a step to get up there.I made a roost maybe knee high and she doesn't even try to get on it. I've never seen her or any of our frizzles fly higher than about knee high. The rascals and all our Sebrights mixes get serious air when they want. Coco loves to make them fly, lol.
The door is too narrow for the wheelbarrow to fit through. Normally I just use the sawdust shovel and toss it in myself. How about a wheelbarrow full instead of hauling buckets
When I used to use shavings I would fill the wheelbarrow for each stall and dump it in. The silkies especially liked Truly’s stall - she would mulch all her bedding up haha.
I use straw now in the stalls, and they love to dig through that and get the left over grains of wheat. But they don’t fluff about in it like they do with the shavings only![]()
Gosh - I really wanted one of those also! Maybe one day in the future. And a bantam? I forgot they came in bantam sizePea comb and dark brahma coloring. You have a dark brahma there.View attachment 3991651She's a pretty little thing (btw)
Oh that sucks! So labour intensive! The door is too narrow for the wheelbarrow to fit through. Normally I just use the sawdust shovel and toss it in myself.
Yea me too. I have a good stash of meds for the horses and chooks, my Vet heads to Florida for the winter middle of December. I can text him to order stuff for me, but better to get it now incase I have to wait for it.I'm glad you're treating her.![]()
Put her next to Poppet so we can see, if she isn’t too much bigger then she’s bantamI hoped so. I thought maybe by the coloring I was right. Hehehe, it also means that due to that coloring being a dark brahma, for sure a pullet and I do not have another stray cockerel. Now the next big question. Little lady, are you a bantam and going to stay small, or in the next week are you going to shoot straight up and be a large fowl. I really do strongly suspect bantam though.
Yeah, good luck with that. That involves getting Poppet off those eggs. I will find out for sure tomorrow, but I think she is maybe as tall as George, just stockier.Put her next to Poppet so we can see, if she isn’t too much bigger then she’s bantam![]()
I will need to video some new songs I am singing to them, it’s dark when I put them to bed lately, and I have my headlamp on low red-light to try not to disturb them while shoving them in the hen house. Not sure if my camera will show anything in the red light…. ?I love when you sing to them.![]()
