Much better today. I washed his eye out with saline solution (very diluted with filtered water) and he’s keeping it open now.
I think he will be fine. Except his alarm cluck isn’t set quite right yet. 3:40 am too early.
Happy to hear that about Rudy. DH has to check the eyes of the Silkies every morning & clears a crusty eye or two every morning. The Santa Ana Winds sometimes blow in dry air or else a broody gets a crusty morning eye or two, He checks them every morning for years cuz of that tendency.

I say, you should bill the city of Santa Ana for the damage done to your property and/or chooks, by the Santa Ana winds!
You might as well, everyone else is suing them for everything from litter to stray cats!

I live in an area where poisonous chemicals are introduced to crops. The fog keeps the chemicals close to the ground, making all my pets suffer. I suffer too. But I just don’t have the money to buy every acre of land around me. I wish I could.

My very first love was with me through the first phase of my sheriff academy.
I also asked her dad if I could marry her. He actually brought out a shotgun, unloaded as a joke, and said “I’m sure you will make a great husband someday, but my daughter is not ready yet to marry anyone. You will find yourself disappointed !” That came from her own father. I have tracked her over the years. She’s been married 4 times since, has 7 children from different fathers and recently lives on a ranch in Colorado. Glad I listened to my elders! This is a true story of my life. Tracking down people is what I have done throughout my entire career. FYI
We all have such different interesting lives/challenges. We'd be dull & complacent zombies w/o those challenges to strengthen us. Sharing that info encourages others they're not alone w/ problems. Just sharing about our chickens comforts us to know others are facing similar issues w/ their birds.

It's said packed crowded rats turn on each other w/ ferocity. Same can be said about humans in packed cities not getting along. I miss the isolation of farm life.

Can't get away from chemicals of one kind or another. Chem trails ~ who knows what's falling from them on us here. Around 1980's a small plane crashed into a Cerritos neighborhood & destroyed 5 homes w/ensuing fire. Can't imagine the chemical fumes from that incident. Then there's food chems too.

Rant tx ~ Ye ole' swimming hole on my cousin's Kerman farm. They had chickens too but it was always too sizzlin' hot to visit the chicken yard daytime so I never got pics of their birds. The irrigation pond was a welcome relief from the sweltering valley sun.

Oh, how close you actually are to me. I could drive down the hill and meet with you both. Face to face, I would love to have you convince me to change my convictions. Only a four hour drive actually

The crash was from a training accident from Fullerton airport. I have used that airport often to get access to Orange County.

Ps. If you eat almonds, oranges, walnuts, and pomegranates you have been exposed to the same chemicals I have described.
