If the Poppet experiment proves a success, and she is as I suspect a pullet producer. I really need to get you some Poppet eggs this year or next. I'm still saddened that between me and you there is no Marty chicks running around. Wee Miss Marty, I guess we just have to be happy to have you.
Funny you mention this. I cannot help but feel that Georgie is a Marty baby. Then there are her eggs, spotty eggs like Marty’s.

What do you think? Of course the definitive would be to do a dna test. Which I can’t afford.

But Marty is still laying soft eggs 😞

I was nicknamed Sylvester in elementary school by classmates as an extension on my first name & I liked it. Helped that I was a Looney Tunes cartoon fan too!
Chicken Abigail. She was late to get her tail. When her tail grew in, Mom called her Abitail. I made up the story that she insisted she was "not Abitail". Hence the username.
I was playing around with semi-random ideas and it sort of fell together.
There is an old saying:

One can become a million quite easy with horses.

All you need to do is start with a billion dollars!

Thus ponypoor came to be when I got my horses.

Grandma is adorable!

My username is what I used for 20 years at the police dept. Back when I started, radios were terrible so we all used our last names and the badge number as that could be understood better than just rattling off badge numbers, but someone else and I had the same last name, so I took Debbie292d. It stuck with me there, and everywhere pretty much since then.
Thank you all for the replies.
Sweet baby ~ maybe an E oil or coconut oil rub on comb/wattles? Stay away from vaseline as that will really stain white feathers & get grease all over which sand & dirt then stick to feathers. We went thru this w/ our floppy comb White Leghorn.
I'll use that for future reference.

I could toss some food in her direction and get it close. I do not want to. Right now none of the other chickens have tried to get to her. The last thing I need is hungry nosy hens bothering her at the moment. I'm sure she would want to fight and that could lead to crushed eggs and squished chicks with the lack of room.
Very true. Is there a way to put up a bit of fencing to keep her safe?

Maybe NOT such a good idea! IMG_4976.jpeg IMG_4975.jpeg

I had to bring Mr. Wyandottey inside. He was guarding the Rockettes again today and they need to get down off the perches and eat some food. :old :barnie
Bossy boy - but hopefully he will settle down soon. I am noting that Rosario and Shirley are settling down.

I can confirm Poppet has had at least 1 chick hatch. She never would raise up to let me catch a glimpse, but I heard it. Also, in front of her was part of a egg shell.
Awww good Poppet ♥️

Hopefully at least one more for a playmate.

Congratulations your a grandma again!

Since it has happened lets shoot for 3. Chicks are fragile. I am not going to relax until they are at least a week old. I will be on edge really until more like 2 weeks. A single chick is ok with a momma hen but I have noticed they do better with at least one sibling. The sibling rivalry really gets them eating really good. All my single chicks were slow and picky eaters.
