@rural mouse was my sweet Morinth a double laced bird?
I think yes?View attachment 4014241

She was definitely single laced. Possibly incomplete double laced? Not real familiar with the variations to double laced. Definitely got the black edging with a gold ground color. And more black in the middle so some double I think. Cardhu has some of the same muddied effect. Has to be from mixed breeding but don't know if effect comes from single or double laced parent. The penciled/partridge look goes similar in the middle with the edging staying crisp in a mix.

Definitely mixed something. Straight comb, wattles, and mint green eggs. Crest, black skin, and 5 toes on each foot too! She was one of a kind alright.

@Grandma The Chicken
Grandma is MORE than brown ~ she isn't barred. She's...she's...uniquely different & her pattern looks so much like Barenevelder patterning. Maybe Barnevelder was used by breeders to originate this patterning to create another Plymouth Rock variety. Breeders are very creative in coming up w/ new colors/patterns for any breed. I mean, years ago there were no blue laced red Brahmas & today they're breeding all kinds of new colors & patterns for them. I can't keep up w/ all the new color/pattern creations. I thought Silkies were the only ones coming up w/ crazy non-standard colors/patterns & now all chicken breeds are being subjected to modifications. Example: the sweet White Leghorn has been crossed to create dozens of new breeds as Legbars, Exchequers, Hybrids, etc etc.

Yes, Grandma is unique. Gorgeous pattern. How did you acquire her?

Looking great, Sylv, but Grandma is not a Barnevelder. I've had several others ask me this before and I've had to tell them she is not a Barnevelder. She's a Plymouth Rock. Although most Plymouth Rocks you see are black and white, like Tony, there are also brown ones like Grandma.

She most definitely was a beautiful enigma...

Wonder if cochins come in golden laced....that would be my first guess: 1/4 silkie (or half from 2 halves), 1/4 cochin....or maybe a cochin x silkie mix crossed with a single comb (or only 1 R comb) Golden wyandotte....hmmmm...

With all the silkie traits, I'm thinking both parents were/are half silkie mixes with 2 different types of other halves....one of which was golden laced of some sort.

She's a partridge Plymouth Rock, just like Pear. Those feathers are partridge patterned (identical to silver penciled but on a red ground color) with a mahogany tone to the red.
