I miss my girl Bernie. She was such a character.
The Welbar was developed in the UK in the early 1940s. They are an auto-sexing breed. They are a breed not a hybrid meaning they breed true (Welbar x Welbar = Welbar), and recognized at least in the UK (not sure about the US).
They lay dark brown eggs with speckles.
Wow does she ever look like Twister. I love those spots!!!!She is clearly not a meatbird. That was their claim when they saw her photo.
Aster has recently taken to flying the entire length of the pool, 5 feet in the air, rather than walking around it. She is an amazing flyer. Clearly not a meat bird.

Mrs LC is my best flier, distance wise. Tippy is also great, as of course is Eli-too, Butterscotch and Muffy. It is truly impressive to see. She can't hover like Phyllis but in ever other way she is a better flier.
No egg laying yet. She is bright red of comb and wattles right now. She has shown no interest in the nest boxes.Wow does she ever look like Twister. I love those spots!!!!
Is she laying eggs yet?
I'd love to see that. I want to catch Aster doing it as well but it's always a shock when she does.Mrs LC is my best flier, distance wise. Tippy is also great, as of course is Eli-too, Butterscotch and Muffy.
And now it seems those youngest chicks, Patches and Silver are really good fliers also. Definitely will need to cover the run to keep them contained. I just don’t have time to chase them all down and herd them home!!!!
I will need to get some footage of Mr LC flying though, she is great!
Oh yes auto-sexing with that lovely colour, and dark eggs. I was looking at them a couple years ago and there are none around here.Sylvie is a Welbar. As was Bernie.

I have just noted a couple new eggs (green blue) in the nest boxes. I feel they are from my Americana chicks Little Mouse and Chicki-chick.No egg laying yet. She is bright red of comb and wattles right now. She has shown no interest in the nest boxes.
