I swear if you do not have a older rooster to bring up a new one the next best thing is a flock full of older hens.

Poor George.

He is trying to step into his role of flock rooster, he is also a young dumb hormonal idiot. My girls are having the time of their lives beating some manners into him. When Goose laid her egg and gave the escort call he came running. The dummy came charging and tried to immediately breed her. Goose and Raven whipped him for that. If he so much as even looks at Gryffyn she pecks him. Siri is having a field day stalking him and pecking him for even the slightest offense to any hen. George is also more vocal now. Siri gave him a hard peck on the back of the head when he was crowing earlier.

Oh my poor boy. It is both funny and so hard to watch at the same time. As long as no blood is drawn I am staying out of it and letting my girls do their job.
Clyde and Shirley are getting it from both Mr P and Mr LC!

Whenever they make a pullet or hen a squawk those two come and clobber them.

The horses find it all very entertaining!

Truly is watching them picking through the poop in the wheelbarrow.

It’s pelting down rain, I brought the horses in they were cold and soaked. Miss Georgie Girl was in the Hen House with her wee ones for a few hrs, I brought them back in the feedroom.

As such I am just chillaxing here surfing the net and checking out the Breda fowl…. Interesting bird.

I remember reading this before. I always wondered how old the Blue Breda websites were since most of the USA sites were no longer active on the internet.

One breeder in Kansas loved BBS Breda as much as me & acquired La Fleche birds to crossbreed w/their BBS flock in hopes of infusing new genes into the USA BBS Breda. But that website has been inactive going into 3 yrs now & doesn't come up anymore. They once were into perpetuating extremely rare breeds of ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks, game fowl, Pyrenees flock dogs, & miniature Highlands but no more ☹️.

The last Blue Bredas I got from them was 2017 ~ Kahlah & Tova

Kahlah died suddenly the 1st week here & Tova died 3 months later ~ the condition was incurable but we gave Tova a comfortable in-house home till she passed. That's when the breeder started a project to infuse new genes into the breed to save them but that kind of crossing & re-crossing takes generations to perfect & now the site is gone.

Looks like Tennessee, still a bit of a hike from you. And they only ship eggs from what can see.
The prettier smaller BBS Breda aren't offered at Birchwood~ only the large gamier Cuckoo Breda. Under their policy statement they ship chicks ~ but again ~ straight run only & not vaccinated. I can't find any NPIP statement either unless I missed it.

I'm tired of dealing w/ any breeder that doesn't vaccinate, isn't NPIP certified, or isn't AI tested. DNA-sexing is also a plus for me. After losing half my birds over the years to backyard, casual, or homeopathic breeders, I am a firm believer in reputable hatcheries or certified breeders. There are so many things going against chickens I've learned the hard way to be pickier about my sources (pickier ~ is that even a word?). Chicks are already a delicate gamble so I want to give them every available headstart.

Back in the 1940's & '50's Mareck's, Newcastles, Mad Cow, AI, etc, were not rampant farm issues. Now we have to worry about ingesting infected AI animal meats.

Sorry for the rant!
