If Poppet is RRPP, then Turkey should be walnut, RrPp. If Turkey is straight combed, then Poppet ir RrPp, which still shows as a walnut comb, but has the chance of transmitting the rp instead of the R and P. There is a chance of a Rose or Pea comb. If either of those is the case, then Poppet carries the lowercase gene for the other and Turkey received that with the capital gene. (RRPp, RrPP, or RrPp in Poppet can result in rrPp or Rrpp in Turkey).

Exactly, it's like taking a new boat out for a ship-shape run (hopefully not far from safe harbor).

I do toy with the idea of poly roofing panels for winterizing the walls of the run, and would like a roof over the coop! Also would need to set some kind of wall up for winter, the wind-driven snow is too great. A shed style maybe.
Use strapping to secure it to the run, strapping screwed into the wood to hold the material. You can also use strapping to hold it in the middle and bottom of the material.

Next summer what about making removable clear panels to cover the walls. They can be removed in nice weather and put back up for winter.

Yes, sides will be nice. Our patio roof has 2 side walls ~ one wall is the garage wall & the 2nd side is the house wall.

Any solid shingled roof & 2 walls will work over a coop/run ~ plywood, osb board, etc, just coat the outer sidewalls w/protective paint/sealer. Our setup wasn't done in a day. We struggled w/an unprotected coop for 5 years. This little coop has the house/garage corner wall protection but it needed roof protection!

Then we got another bigger shed coop & still we had problems w/leaks.

Final setup ~ a patio roof & 2 walls protects coop/run from rain or heatwaves. It took planning & $$$ according to budget to figure a way to protect our hens. This plan also keeps our nestboxes dry & keeps us dry too in the rain!

Oooo is Turkey fibro??? You know they have my heart ❤️ 💙 💜
No I do not think she is. The black skin and beak is a result of her being half silkie. Her parents are also black based so to be honest I am not surprised she is all black.

Here is Poppet, silver partridge.

'Her father Randy was what I would call a duckwing color. Still, he was black based.

The next few weeks will be interesting with Turkey. If Turkey is a little cockerel He will not stay solid black. The next juvenile molt should tell the tale. Color will start popping on him and he will end up looking like his father.

If Turkey is indeed a pullet like I am suspecting, I'm confident she will stay solid black. She will end up looking fairly similar to my Spooky minus the beard and muffs.

Here is my Spooky a 2nd generation silkie x Marans cross.

She was interesting as a chick as she took had black skin and a black comb. When she is in lay her comb is that color, now that she is not laying it is almost black again.

I also think especially if Turkey is a pullet she will remain tiny like her mother. Growth wise she is on par with the full silkie chicks I hatched last spring.

I honestly right now think pullet. If so I am amazed at Poppet and she is worth her weight in gold. 7 chicks hatched from her. Her oldest 6 all pullets, Turkey leaning pullet. I have never, ever in my flock had a pullet producing hen.

A couple more silkie roosters were listed this past week close by.

The first is a naked neck, nope not touching that thing with a 10 foot pole. Show girl silkies just are not my cup of tea. I know there is a following out there who love them. I just cannot with the naked necks. To be a part of my flock I have to enjoy the "look" of the birds.

2 more roosters were posted and they also are not what I am looking for build and look wise. I feel so bad for them I almost contacted them out of pity. The pictures were taken inside their coop, which is a mud pit. Yes I know lately everywhere has been a mud pit, but my coop was kept dry.

I refrained from inquiring about all 3. Pity or not, none of the boys were what I wanted and the 2 non naked necks had no beards, and straight red combs.

The right silkie boy is out there. I will find him and if I find him through a add on facebook or craigslist I will know it when I see it.

Ooooo! Gorgeous! I'm a Great British Bakeoff fan too! That's a great Christmas Tear-n-Share!

Made a vegetarian loaf recipe from one contest finalist on the Bakeoff show

They had a Florentine baking episode but it wasn't gluten-free so I improvised & used Almond & Coconut flour instead. Not as attractive as the show cookies but they were crispy, chocolatey, & yummy! I love thin warm crispy cookies.
