I remember the blizzard of 97. I was 13 at the time and ended up getting a week off. Back then, I wished and prayed for snow days.

The snow that sticks out in my memory as a child was in January of 94. There are pictures somewhere but my then 4 year old brother was out in the yard playing. The snow was up to his shoulders. It shut EVERYTHING down for about a week and a half. What really sticks out though was for that Christmas I had gotten a Dalmatian puppy. Yes I know, I was part of the 101 Dalmatian craze so everyone had to have a Dalmatian. Anyway, we got Pongo I think 2 days before Christmas and Christmas eve he got his first Parvo shot. Thanks to the snow and everything being closed we missed the 2nd shot by 3 days. In that 3 day period he contracted Parvo and was on deaths door by the time the vet opened up. He spent a week at the vets and beat it. Our vet actually told mom then due to the high fever he had and how long it lasted it was probably not a good thing and he claimed his brain was fried.

Now, be it poor breeding or the parvo, I have no clue but he was always a little off temperament wise. I did not care, 10 year old on me loved my Dalmatian. He was 4 when he turned for no reason. Scariest moment of my life was when Pongo and my brother was in the living room watching tv with dad. He snapped and lunged and tried to bite my brother in the face. Dad grabbed his collar in the nick of time. He was taken to the vet that evening and put down. I was heartbroken and angry. I blamed my brother then, but, I saw it with my own eyes and Michael did nothing wrong. To this day I still love Dalmatians and think they are beautiful. I will probably never get another one as since then we have had goldens. When CeeCee is gone or maybe before I will have another Golden. Gracie has been gone almost a year and the house does not feel the same without her.
Parvo is a vicious condition. So sad about the Dalmation.

I never gave Golden Retrievers much notice but there was a neighbor who had 3 of them over the years so he certainly liked them. When my DD/SIL adopted their 7-yr-old Golden I saw what made them a very amiable dog. There isn't a mean bone in that pup's temperament even after a little abuse from her previous dementia owner. I think she wears a permanent smile :D

Sure hope it gets warm for you! And Rebecca. This has been a crazy winter, first really mild, then turned freezing and hasn’t relented since Christmas really. A couple milder days but no real break.

Last night when I got home it was -5C and felt so mild! The chooks wanted out but I needed to do chores - we all know what sort of time thieves they are!

The little snook'ums knew you were coming! Our girls hear the car in the driveway & immediately start calling to us.

This is so heart warming 💓

What happened to her?

The little sweetie has deformed feet ~ there is not enough length in toes so she couldn't walk w/o the special booties that allow her a normal walk. W/O those booties she can't walk & the owner made a walker to strengthen her legs that never walked before. Now she walks like a normal chicken. Not sure how she forages w/those booties but at least she has mobility now ❤️
