My gang think rain is evil, they refuse to stay out in it. Well except the silly silkies they are sometimes just dumb as stumps!

I’m worried about the two golden girls. They got wet standing in the rain. They were chased back into the coop by me. But they are soaked. There is no heat in the coop. Just the A/C for summer. It’s going to drop down to 45f tonight. Should I be concerned?

Chick Flick.

Picked up 3 Australorps today. Just a day old, so will keep in the house for a couple days and then out to the coop brooder.

New chickies oh, why do they grow up so fast?! So cute the little cheep cheeps !

I’m worried about the two golden girls. They got wet standing in the rain. They were chased back into the coop by me. But they are soaked. There is no heat in the coop. Just the A/C for summer. It’s going to drop down to 45f tonight. Should I be concerned?

We towel dry soaked chickens & follow up w/ paper towel dry which absorbs more moisture then let them air dry inhouse if really cold ~ no blow dry in cold weather. It's said chickens do ok in temps down to 50F. If our chickens get cold they snuggle for warmth ~ if hot they keep a space between them. Drafts are more important for chickens to avoid than cold temps IMO.

We lost a chick. Hubby convinced me to go to the store (I masked up) and while we were gone the waterer tipped. I'm not blaming him, just saying we weren't home when it happened.
One of the little penguin chicks got wet and cold, and passed in the cup carrier thing. I thought it broke it's neck at first but I guess that's just the position it went down in.

I cleaned the brooder, put the waterer where each leg was settled on the canvas, no bedding underneath. Hopefully it doesn't tip again.
I want to cry but my throat hurts so bad right now it would be too painful.

My farm Mom always told me to expect chick losses. She raised poultry & as disappointing as it is it will happen to lose chicks ~ she said cuz they are so fragile. It's why it's good to have several chicks to compensate for chance loss. So sorry about the little chickie. Was your little girl understanding about what happened

Well he has been roaming the barn most of the day, I wasn’t able to hear his breathing on the cameras due to the noisy clucks, soon I’ll be home and be able to get a look at him.

More antibiotics and some aspirin for what ails him.

That sounds like a plan. Anybody else w/ a cold? Is it possible to isolate Clyde to get some rest away from his pecky hens?

My coop is designed for hot weather. It’s drafty if it’s windy. The girls don’t want to come in the house to get dry. I’m not the rooster guy, Mr Wyandottey is their rooster.

W/ Silkies I'm afraid to guess boy or girl till they are well over 6 months. It's why I went the DNA-sexing route so I could get guaranteed female chicks. So much easier for us cuz finding homes for restricted roo's in a city zone is impossible for us here .
