I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
Clever name ....just getting my chicks so will enjoy reading your fluffy tales

OMG, I watched Chickie lay an egg this morning!! :idunno My husband had put some mulch down over a big crop of weeds. I said to him that the girls would probably dig it up. This morning, I watched Chickie standing in the middle of it, out in the open, in a funny posture. I thought “Is she about to lay an egg??” 30 seconds later, an egg fell out of her bum! I whipped it up before she could break it, but noticed it had like a little cap on it that wasn’t completely sealed. It was funny to watch her do that, but I worry about it cracking or leaking inside her.

First Snow

I promised to post video of Maleficent and Aurora in the snow for the first time. Last year Hattie and Jabber were hysterical when the first snow fell. They ran for cover when the first flakes started falling. I could see Patsy and Lilly laughing at them as they resumed eating grass for all they were worth trying to get those last blades in before they covered by snow. Jabber and Hattie did slowly come back out and join their friends eating.

I was hoping to get a similar video today. Judge for yourself how upset Maleficent and Aurora were by today's flakes.

I just love your videos Bob.
I notice they are feeding off the wooden boards. Is this how you normally feed them?
The chickens here do not like eating out of the bowls I provide the food in. They much prefer to eat from natural ground. Wood at least in theory should be a much more comfortable pecking surface than pottery, hard plastics and concrete.

I get very strong language on those rare occasions when I have to shut the chickens out of the house. There are some cleaning operations that are just so much easier if you haven't got chickens under your feet.
