Went out for a photo op....wind, occasional mist (not even that much) and sitting at about 50⁰F (10⁰C). Adults (some of them) were willing to pose. Chicklets... not so much. No sign of a crow, or even a honk yet. He just peep-peeps.
It is Geronimo who honks.
They are 11 weeks old tomorrow.
Any day now? Or will he think before he crows?

Depends upon the cockerel. Some make attempts as soon as they can be identified as a cockerel. Others wait until their pullet hatchmates start laying, and others even longer. The longest usually have at least 1 mature rooster teaching them the ropes. Cheetah crowed at 13-14 weeks, right after Rusty was killed. The current crew, at 15.5 weeks still haven't that I've heard.

They had a chicken petting area with bantam Polish. Many people who have never seen a chicken got to hold one.

I know the feeling. I made a list this morning of what must be done before winter arrives. It's too long.

Too long... what... the winter? or the list?

Since breaking my arm last year & 2 surgeries so far this yr I gave up on "to do" things All 5 of my trees are as high as an elephant's eye (Rogers & Hammerstein) & need pruning, my iceplants & guava hedges need trimming badly, my zucchini plant leaves have taken over the sidewalk, I never got to plant my parsnips for the winter, & I barely keep up w/ daily sweeping the patio of chicken poop ~ I'm lucky to get it done once a week! DH does so much cooking, laundry, cleaning, chickeneering, on top of working there's no time to do yardwork as thoroughly as when we were both able to share the workload.

DH enlisted a friend to help prune this yr but the trees just grow too fast!

The plus about our 5 trees is that they are all fruit-yielding trees & give the hens shade!

I love her colouring, it’s so wild looking!

I like the color of her feathers but oh poor Chicki-chick without her beard. I sure do hope it grows back.
