Standing on one leg, isn’t allowed on my farm. My rule is “both chickens feets, planted firmly on the ground, unless walking!”

Where do you stand () on pausing while walking? Walking in slow motion? Running, hopping, jumping, flying..?

Do you have any tips for dealing with winter/cold weather. I'm in michigan and it's starting to get cold around here. This will be my first winter keeping chickens so I'm a bit worried.

1. Liquid water. Multiple trips a day out lugging water, heated water bowl, crock pot set to warm...

2. Plan on them NOT wanting to leave the coop sometimes and other times wanting OUT

3. Snow deep enough to fall into their footprints while their feet are still in the print (so 3+ inches) means they pretty much won't go through it. Shoveling/tramping paths will be necessary. One it develops the hard crust on top, they'll go running across it.

4. -10F and colder is coldvenough to choose to stay in (also humidity dependent).

5. Outside places sheltered from the wind but in the sun will be prime hang outs

Sure I have a tip for you. Move to central California. I have plenty of room for your chooks!

My vet no longer uses Baytril. Someone told me it's a Calif stopped thing?

Just try not to stand on one foot more than 20 seconds, or else you are just showing off!

Dakota hid all day on the back porch, just waiting for me to return home. When I went out to check on all my other birds in the coop, she noisily came out of hiding and ran into the open door of the house. I guess she wants to be a house chicken. I don’t blame her, it’s actually quite comfortable in my home.

Good you caught that. Yes my ceiling is usually 3000ft unless I’m cautioned to deviate from that cruising altitude, to avoid other aircraft. You can be my copilot anytime! You are very observant.

We called a few vets around our area in advance of getting chickens so we'd have emergency contacts if a bird fell ill suddenly. We lucked out finding a vet nearby who is a dog/cat/exotics/bird vet. He's reasonable compared to an avian-only vet but it's still costly to use a vet.

DH took our Suzu to our vet this morning to clean out her hardened clogged nares cuz I didn't want to go digging in unfamiliar internal areas myself.

Makes me wonder if something happened to have a rule like that.

I’m a pilot. I have my own Cessna SkyHawk. And it’s very difficult for me to keep my feet on the ground. So if I can’t keep my feet on the ground, my chooks must at least try to.

Use of Baytril for poultry anywhere in the USA was banned ten years ago.
