Size wise, the littles are 1/2 scale of the big birds now. Going on 4.5 weeks old today.
For an inside makeshift "coop" could you get a large carboard box and set up perches in there? Like a moving packing box, or garment moving box. A large grocery box might work.

I may have to go to town to find such a box. I sure don’t live in the city. More like “Green Acres tv show “ around here

I was told a secret about chickens, from an old friend (RIP)
A chicken won’t poop on you, if they are sitting down, or laying down. It works! Just FYI :old
How do you keep them from just standing up when they need to poop, wherever they are though? :gig That's what my chicks did, just scramble a bit then suddenly stop and do their business!

When I was researching brooder ideas I almost did this one: take two plastic bins and cut out part of or the whole side on each of them - the long or short side, depending - and attach (tape or screw) them together. If it's tall enough, that will work, though you could even go up a story if you have enough bins.

I don’t know, you could ask them. Taken just now. 47719C50-9694-48ED-874A-5768B03E62BB.jpeg

That two story, is what I’m doing now

Phyllis is so attached to me that it is scary. I can't go out without her following me everywhere. She is my little shadow. I have to be very careful I don't step on her! She comes when I call her. She is a super special little lady.
She sounds like my Mable. I walk out the door .. talk to her from 7 ft. away, she squats. 😄

There is something wrong with this picture here. Occupied nest box, occupied nest box, and complaining hen camped out in front. In fact complaining so loud that she's brought both boys around to see what is wrong. But do you see it? A perfectly good empty nest right beside the occupied one. One in fact that she's used several times in the past. But is it good enough today, NO!! She's going to sit right there no matter how long it takes and raise a ruckus that so the whole neighborhood can hear her.

Aurora came to me with the broken toe. I was not about to break it again at 6 weeks and try to straighten it so she goes along quite fine with one crooked toe. It is part of who she is and is part of what I find endearing about her.
I get that. I feel the same way about Ruby. She actually first got sick around the same time I noticed the broken toe. The avian vet seeing her for the illness was not concerned about the toe.
