Miss Ruby was stumbling badly this morning. She’s having trouble walking because she has swelled up so badly. I have a call in to the avian vet. She needs help of some kind… either draining plus an implant or possibly euthanasia. 🙁

She was still eating and drinking, but is having trouble getting around. She’s taken on the penguin stance, too. My poor, little valiant fighter baby.

This is my little would be drowning victim today. They have such comical personalities. I wish you could tell early on these guys on which are boys and which are girls. They are 6 weeks old now and weaned, I really need to make some decisions on them on who is staying if any. I want to keep 2 girls, but they are still so tiny. Their size is actually worrying me, even though they are healthy the rest of my flock are really big chickens. Is it really worth keeping 2 if all I'm going to be doing is worry about them being picked on by the big birds? That and wondering what have they found today to try to kill themselves with.

I’m broken hearted this morning. A friend of mine just asked me if I wanted his overly aggressive BO rooster. I can’t take on any more chickens at this time. Another roo, would unbalance the harmony here. But he’s a beautiful rooster. Reminds me of BEN when he was younger. His rooster pic. View attachment 2767229
He is a handsome fellow, but you have to do right by your flock

Sorry, but that’s your call, and those breeds are hard to sex until they crow

What I'm going to do now that they do not have their momma to back them up is watch how the rest of my flock treats them. If they go out of their way to pick on them I will make the call to rehome them all. It would be selfish on my part to keep them only to have to keep them cooped up all day for their safety. I could do it, but I will not. It would not be fair to have everyone else free range and them stay in a coop just so I can have a silkie.

I wish you could keep them all!
