Ooohhh… are all faverolles terrible layers? That’s what I need next. No more high production breeds, which is such a shame, as I love Leghorns (especially brown ones) almost as much as Bob lives them (white ones)!

I once had a Salmon Faverolle named Hapoy Cheeks, but she died at two weeks old.

I remember Happy Cheeks! Yes, Faverolles are not prolific layers, in fact according to the chicken book we all bought? They are meat birds! I think the Salmon Faverolles lay in spring and autumn/fall, and Reds appear to only lay in spring. Or maybe that’s just my girls.

You will of course note that despite my love of them, I have no leghorns in my tribe. I need to find a way to import some non-production leghorns from Italy.

Everyone will hate me but a good cat hunting dog sorts problems like this out.

Our cat is intimidated by the chickens and last year's chicks (Mama and her sister and rusty only ones still here) had him scared at 8 weeks old.

I've not seen any evidence that severity of moult is related to breed. I've had a few heavy moulters and they seemed to get less sever as they grew older.

At least there's hope for the heavy moulters then....and a gamble on any bird.

That's Penny. We are minding her for my Mum-in-law and Bro-in-law until they are settled after their move to Queensland.
She's a sweety but I prefer my dogs a bit bigger.
