Chicken waterer froze solid last night. How do you keep it from happening?
Ran across a local who mentioned old crock pots scattered around their property for all the smaller critters (dogs, cats, chickens, any other pets). She said has to have a warm setting that works. Tried it: one under the front porch one 1 side of the house (and 15 feet from the tub under the downspout) and the other in the car port for some shelter on the opposite side. Keep them filled, turn the lids across to help with evaporation and they stay thawed out even at -35F.

Ok, so today in regional Vic we had 2 hours notice for a 2 week lock down 🙄 back to the 5 reasons to leave home. Reading a politicians post just now I saw this…

Where are we going for our 5 reasons that we are drinking (I know we Aussies have a boozy reputation but c’mon man) but to then say you can’t remove your mask to do it? What a interesting filtration system 😂

That is a lot of fluid from a little chicken.
Yep. Poor thing. This morning she either didn’t want to or couldn’t get down from the roost. I brought her in where it’s warm and tubed 60cc warm pedialyte first thing. Then I offered baby bird formula mash and watermelon. She’s slowly walking around the kitchen sampling my offerings. I’m waiting for it to warm up a few more degrees before sending her back outside and would like to tube more fluids first.. I think the watermelon itself is hydrating and literally saved her life during one of her tough spells.

Naenae is feeling good!

I hypothesize she was due to have a day off of laying today anyway since yesterday was a 3 egg day...but that coupled with her hCG shot yesterday made it a no-egg morning. I'm happy for her body to get a break.

I just visited Pecking Garden and she had obviously scheduled a spa day. The mud bath must have been her favorite. Clumps of dirt under her wings and a muddy bottom. :love
A total delight to see!
She ran up to say hello and then wandered back after pleasntries were exchanged to scratch up near the cherry tree.
I love that sweet little bird. ❤
