I’m right there with you on this! Though I do let them out into a natural environment as often as I feel safe doing so.One of the points that I probably made with too much subtlety is that I can't really know if they are content.
They seem to be, but there's a lot of guesswork in that assertion.
One thing I can say with a lot of certainty is that I keep the hens in an unnatural environment and they don't seem to mind
