We live 2 -3 blocks from train tracks and a (I believe) metal recycling plant. There are days it sounds like a war is happening. The worst though is every few days when there is a great thundering boom that shakes the entire house and makes us all jump. I can only guess it is train cars running into each other or something.I feel your pain. There is a military installation not far from us where the practice tank maneuvers. Many is the day I have thought a thunderstorm was coming and instead it is tank rounds exploding.
Great photos!![]()
It has proven to be a bit of a success as a chicken transport method. It's easier to walk with than a pet carrier, she doesn't roll about in it either. No problem with air flow. The only feature it's missing is a way of keeping the rain out. She's surprisingly calm! I can just see her pop her head out just as a bobby asks about the bag.
Well I don't know. You lot on that side of the pond do some pretty weird stuff.Yes. Obviously it might. Do you really think I’m going out to buy a drone?![]()

It is not an illusion but it's more purple than blue. At a guess I would say she has cancer or imminent organ failure rather than heart problems.Shad, does her comb have a bit of a blue tinge or is that an illusion in the photo?
It is a very hard decision to make. I could write pages about why I believe the three day rule is often best for the chicken even if it's hard on the keeper. This is one of the lessons I learned from my Bok, I brought her in for a night or 2 before putting her back out with the pullets until her vet appointment.
I also wonder if having her euthanised was the correct thing to do but I went by your rule Shad of counting the days she wasn’t eating or coming out of the coop and I felt she was suffering too much and I was heartsick for her.
I guess I’ll never know and it doesn’t do well to speculate, otherwise you end up going in circles of guilt![]()
Speaking of Lexi, today I showed off her speed and agility by zooming her back and forth across the yard chasing balls and a floppy frisbee. Reason being, a large Red Shouldered Hawk was stalking the yard, perched up in a tree and calling over and over. I did not realize Red Shouldered Hawks could get that big. Whatever swooped down in the yard several weeks ago as not as big, so perhaps it was a different species. What I really need is a Lexi. I wonder if I could train Éowyn to patrol the yard. She would scare off hawks.![]()
I don't believe she will. I expect to be posting that it is finally over for her in a couple of days time.Hahaha, my goodness, I’m picturing the cop scene in my head
Honestly though, Shad, this is just adorableI really hope she perks up soon!
When Margo had an infection, the back of her comb turned bluish/purplish. However, she had a large comb. The only other time I’ve seen that was at the very end with Ruby, who was drooling. It is not an illusion but it's more purple than blue. At a guess I would say she has cancer or imminent organ failure rather than heart problems.
