Hi everyone. Ester isn’t feeling well. She’s standing around, has a poopy back end, does not seem to be eating much, and I think she is swollen. Not a good combination. Her posture is good while she is standing, but she is pretty inactive and (barely) scratches heartlessly.

It’s too cold to wash her bum, so I trimmed some feathers, gloved up, and pulled poop off. I also generously dusted her back end with cornstarch in hopes it would help me crumble the poop off (I think it helped).

I checked her crop when she went to roost and it was not empty. I hope that means she’s been eating when I’m not looking and not that it’s slow. I’ll check in the morning.

Her vent was VERY messy and tiny. I may bring her in for a couple hours tomorrow morning so I can properly wash her vent and surrounding area. A few months back she was messy in the back and seemed not to feel well, but was much better after I washed her off. I hope that’s what happened here… messy butt feathers backed her up, but I fear she has a reproductive problem. She never really came back into lay after her ordeal last winter at this exact same time.
I hope to read on and all is well 💜

i dont think ill be here for a while. I apologize. Im feeling absolutely disgusted with myself, a chick i own (and probably all my others) im confident has coccidiosis, and i waited to long, thinking it was some other issue. I apologize again. i was very ignorant to think she was alright. Sorry to bring it into a gloomy setting.
:hugs We are here when you come back

These things happen, even qualified vet's get it wrong. We can only do our best and learn as we go along

Thanks, Ribh. Yeah, not my best year for chickens. I find it odd that all three chickens raised by Cashew have had health issues, more so than those raised by me. After Bob’s experience with his mail order chicks, I wonder if something happened when they were mailed to the feed store where I picked them up.
My heart goes out to you Michelle, I honestly know how you feel. :hugs

You're such a caring person, she was so lucky to have you

Again, the love is for you.

Let's think of Ester.

She had so many hours of following her chickeny dreams, free ranging with her friends! Great food, and no hunger. A vet when she needed medical support. She was almost always safe from predators.

And on top of all that wonderful living, she came third in the hard moult contest!!

Much loved.

Sadly missed.
:hugs

My one horse thinks she is an Arabian Princess, and she might chip a good if we went riding.

I remind her who feeds her and problem solved 😆

I keep telling my Rooster-Brat Pangoo that if he doesn't stop attacking my mum's winter boots I will throw a saddle on him and 50 miles of riding.... (Safe bet I wouldn't last 2 miles hahaha with my knees!)

So in other words Chaco is a lawn ornament like my four....
Chaco deposits “lawn ornaments” just saying.

I had a bad dream last night. I dreamed that I was supposed to go with some family members to Denmark. (Fly there) from New York, but was tricked into an oceanic cruise ship, with the most obnoxious auntie I ever had. And the ship, was a rusty bucket of a boat. (Talk about a nightmare) :thNo more late night ham sandwiches for me!:barnie
