Absolute Chaos at Roosting Time

Tonight‘s roosting was crazy. All of the normal rules have been broken and I have no idea where things are going to go from here.

I knew I was in for something when i turned the camera on and saw this.

That is Lilly on the high roost.

Aurora was eating something and then she departed.

Hattie did not know how to handle this development. She kept looking at Lilly I can only assume wondering why? I could seeing her measuring the jump but she knew better. It was not going to happen.

Shortly after this, Sansa and Sydney arrived. Did Lilly being on the High roost dissuade them, absolutely not. Sydney and Sansa joined her on the high roost. Lilly started pecking them.

While this was going on Phyllis came in and roosted at the far end of the main roost away from Hattie.

Before long, Lilly had booted both Sansa and Sydney off of the high roost.

Did that dissuade Syndey and Sansa, no way. Up to the high roost they went again. This time in the tussle it was Lilly that lost out.

Down she came.

Lilly went to her normal roosting spot and Hattie settled in next to her.

This left the little T-Rex herself.

In came Aurora. She immediately went about knocking Phyllis off of the roost. Having succeeded there, she turned her attention to the High Roost. A few measurements and up she went.

This was very disturbing to Hattie and Lilly. They both stood up and Hattie moved to the center of the roost.

T-Rex was successful in her first battle and knocked Sydney off. Did this dissuade Sydney, no way, back up she went.

In the meantime, Phyllis got up on the main roost between Hattie and Lilly. This turned into her running back and forth between the two of them to avoid their pecking.

After a little bit of this fun, Lilly actually stepped on Phyllis to get past her. Apparently she had decided that there was no way that Aurora was going to roost up high and she wasn’t. Down the roost she went and she hpped right up onto the high roost.

That settled everything for the night. Phyllis would up in the old premier location, Daisy’s spot. Hattie roosted next to her and on the high roost from the camera to the door it went, Lilly, Sydney, Aurora, and then Sansa.

Here they are. You can catch the arch of Phyllis’ back in the lower right hand corner. I cannot imagine what tomorrow night will bring.

I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
My words exactly! Pets!

I made the blind, I made a few in fact many years ago, but they don't fit the windows. I had thermal blinds in my flat in the UK and they weren't very pleasant to look at.
The rugs were my mothers. They are Persian wool and silk. I can't have them on the floor while the chickens are coming in and out but I put them down most winter nights after I've mopped the floor.
The saddle bag I got in South America. I had to leave a lot of stuff I was quite fond of behind when I moved here. I had to reduce 11 cubic meters of stuff to 2.5 cubic meters of stuff when my things got sent out here. Lots of books I gave away to friends and family, tools I wish I had brought with me and some furniture I had restored.
I like a home. I'm not the type to not be bothered by what my environment looks like.
It's all very nice! That last statement left me confused, as double negatives always do. So, you're not bothered by what you environment looks like, or you are bothered by it?

What great fun to see what they are up to at roost time! It's probably good I don't know how this goes in my flock. The only thing I have worried about during integrations has been that they all make it into a coop, because there are always choices and that confuses some of them. :D

Aren't Polishes a small breed though? Nardol the Brave didn't look very big.

She should be 4 lbs (~2kg) fully grown. She is clearly not there yet. I feel like she is maybe 2.5lbs. I need to weigh her. Frankly neither Sydney nor Sansa are the size they should be yet at about 25 weeks.

Indeed. If you view them as pets you will love the stories in my thread. If you don’t have time to read them all, jump to the present and join us there. You can always go back and catch up when you have time.

I‘ve stopped watching every night. The drama is too much. I make certain they are all in and let it go. But when I saw Lilly on the high roost I was intrigued and I had to see what would happen tonight.
