Adorable chick! What do you think she is?
I've got 2 options and both of them make it half Marans.
Option 1 is I really did set her with my Marans Daisy's eggs and it's daddy is my silkie Branch. I really do not think that is the case as Daisy hates Branch and beats him up when he comes near her.
Option 2 is its mother is one of my marans cross girls Squirrel or Blueberry and its daddy is one of my 2 Marans boys. With it's color I'm leaning towards Squirrel my Marans x Buff orp.
This is Squirrel

I just do not see that brown coloring coming from Blueberry my Marans x EEx Wyandotte cross.

Momma hen brought out her baby this morning. Now that I have saw it in daylight, I've somehow ended up with a chocolate chick. I thought I set her with Daisy eggs, but I obviously did not. Squirrel and Blueberry sometimes lay super dark eggs that can be confused with a marans if your not careful. I kept myself at a safe distance on the porch steps while I took these photos. When you have a evil hen, a zoom lens is your best friend.
This picture right here, while it is not perfect, it earned her it's name meet Karen!

:loveShe looks like a pretty confident chick already...but...fortunately, no real 'boy posturing' :fl So hopefully she IS a she!!!

So, I don't really know anything about genetics and coloring except that the barring gene is what is used to create sex links. (Thanks @RoyalChick ) That said, honestly, I think it could be from either pairing with your marans boys. It does have a fair amount of chocolate and caramel colors, (i.e. squirrel), but given the coloring of your boys, Blueberry could have softened the boys coloring to make more of the caramel show, there is places where the chick is dusty grey, and if squirrel's, I would have thought more yellow (as a chick?) But, again, I'm not up on this, nor how her colors will change as she fledges.....I can't wait to see her transformation...please show weekly pics so I can see this change...pretty please🙏

This chick will for sure stay at least until Momma hen weans it. She always hangs onto hers for at least 7 weeks or so, sometimes longer. I did hold it last night while she was still sitting on the 2 dud eggs and give it a good once over. I just do not see any silkie traits on this chick that would make me think Branch was indeed the daddy. I will post several updates as it grows as I'm curious as to what it will end up looking like. I do not know about keeping it, I'm keeping Lilly for sure, and I'm hoping one of Baby's white chicks turns out to be a girl. Then we have Squirrels mini me.

Princess from now on has to sleep in the other coop she's badly clumsy and the others are afraid of her at night, she is very possessive at food times only flexi can sometimes tell her to back off but at night even flexi keeps her distance.

As bad as it is we are working things out. She spends a lot of time with the girls and has had little adventures in next doors garden with the others, she rummages through the main coop during the day and hangs out on the perches.
In the old coop she has a good perch and prefers sleeping on that also there is another room it's all perfectly dry as it's been fixed really well

Today I was surprised too see that's she's starting to lay her eggs in this coop, so tonight she had lots of fuss and I've put treats out for her with her food for the morning. Another plus is she can open her door by her herself and doesn't feel she has to be around when everyone else is. It was funny this morning when I had cleared out the main coop and let the girls out she just threw open her door and gave me my orders to open the run.

I currently have 34 chickens. 14 designated for egg laying and 24 silkies. I plan on hatching silkie chicks and then selling them. I first got hooked on chickens around two years ago, started with two chickens, and look where I am now!😂 Actually, 36 chickens, two chicks hatched out from a broody momma this past week. Their daddy is a grey silkie and I believe their mother is a black sex link. I'll include pictures!
You have some beautiful chickens there. It is amazing how quickly the number of chickens you have can multiply isn't it!

On the thread we have multiple themed picture days.

MUGS MONDAY: On Monday everyone posts pictures of their chickens faces (mugs).

2FER TUESDAY: On Tuesday we post pictures of 2 chickens in the same photo

THIRSTY THURSDAY: On Thursday we post pictures or videos of our chickens drinking

FLUFFY BUTT FRIDAY: On Friday we post pictures of the fluffy derrieres that our beloved chickens have. This is the day that started it all.

PONY SUNDAY: As we have a lot of horse owners here as well, we all get to enjoy pictures of their lovely horses on Sundays.

Please feel free to participate in any of the photo days.
