And next another sad post. It has been a difficult week/month. Last night our beautiful girl Precious Princess (we didn't name her) found her way to peace. Also about 16 years old, she fought hard at the end, but had developed a nasty infection. She and her brother Puff have been with us about 4 years. They just moved in one day and when their person (a neighbor) had to move and couldn't take them she asked if we would keep them.

Star and Precious as close as they could stand to be. RIP girls.
From four down to two in 3 weeks. It has been a shock.
My advice is don't have animals all the same age!
Beautiful kitty, I’m so sorry. :hugs

Well folks, it is getting real and hitting me like a ton of bricks that at the end of the month Rosie will be in High School. I am not ready for this!!!😭

So, a while back I was trying to find something that would be evergreen, not too tall, but tall enough for the chooks to get in/around/under, and, obviously, not toxic to the chooks......for their soon to be expanded run. @rural mouse had suggested juniper, but I had only previously found low growing ground cover types...or large like a cedar. Well, she inspired me to keep looking, and this is what I found this past weekend for my run!! I think it will work perfectly!

I'm not ready to plant it, but there were only a few, so I bought it with the hopes I'll keep it alive until I'm ready to plant it!

Bugs, especially spiders, love juniper too. Should help motivate the chickens to hang out around it. The berries are edible, and have been used in making gin. Once established, it's almost indestructible. I have a ground cover one (or more, same area so can't tell), but am looking for similar sized to your new plant for the hillside.

Hard to see in the shadow, but this morning, Jess was staying in the coop with the little one. I started picking up the hobbit lot and dumping them just outside the big door, closing it behind each as I went. half hour or so later, they're still outside, looking kinda lost, but same concept as Mama saying she's done. At least 1 of the adults has been hanging out near by. Pear was just outside the pics. Nellie, Cuckoo, and Twirp have all been near in turns and I'm watching from inside the house. Last night I lured them with scratch around the coop to the door and 2 went inside that way. As I warch, Storm went running over as Twirp drifted off for a drink.

Meanwhile, up the hill on the power pole, the Flickers are making a racket courting in loops around it and a pair of bluebirds is testing out the birdhouse as a nest site.

And Cheetah is taking a turn with the babes, getting them under the wonderful sheltering Russian olive trees.
