I shouldn’t find this so funny, but I recall my Own relief when the hay finally ran out
In the barn up here and I didn’t have to climb to the top daily “just to be sure” some eggs did manage to slip down between the bales. But with all the cattle and putting out 6+ square bales a day for them, it goes pretty quickly
With 3 horses the hay never runs out. When we hit 20 bales it is time to restock. If it is packed tightly we can fit 100 bales, but the majority of the time we leave enough room for air circulation so it does not mold and have around 75 bales. The downfall to that is yes sometimes eggs slip through the gaps to be found later. I really did not think to check in the back as they tend to lay in the front of the hay pile and never more then 2 bales high. I was starting to think they were going under the hay like momma hen did and risked being snake bit yesterday laying on the ground shining a flashlight to try and spot a nest. I know one of these days fooling with the hay I will run across a snake worse then a black snake.

Well played girls, well played. Someone was definitely gearing up to go broody. I will now daily keep a check on that spot. I will admit though, could not get a more perfect backdrop for a nest of pretty brown eggs.

In a matter of hours this thread has shoot up from 9228 to 9235. You guy's don't half yap a lot and I thought I was bad :D :th

Hello by the way :)
@WhoDatChick is back. There is a lot to talk about. 😉

You know if you compare that to the Karen chick the resemblance is rather striking… maybe we
Should check the genetics? Or consult an expert like @RoyalChick on chicken breeds to make sure little Karen isn’t half Starling or something?
Karen says Momma Hen told her she did not have to reveal who her real mother or father are.

For those of you who still think roosters are more annoying and loud then hens I shall tell you about how my morning has gone so far. Both Raven and Baby are ready to lay again, even though their chicks are only almost 4 weeks old. Both girls are driving me up the wall. Neither one has shut up since 10 am, throwing hens out of boxes, causing the other hens to get upset and then leaving the boxes complaining to run back to their chicks without laying. Then starting the whole process again after a few minutes. I have had to listen to loud angry hens for almost 3 hours, my boys....they have crowed once. Poor Bubba and Branch have given up responding to the 2 loud mouths and instead are doing their best to escort and aid the evicted hens. I have took a page out of Alex's book and shouted at them that I want KFC today.....it did not help.
They really can be very loud and annoying. I try hard to keep my satisfied early in the morning to be of courtesy to my neighbors.

Daisy is having a good day so far today, I've not saw her show hardly any discomfort at all. She's ate, dust bathed, picked on the hooligans and been in the creek eating minnows.

How I wish this truly was just a nice fluffy booty.

She is such a lovely girl. :loveI'm glad for both you and her that today is a good day for Daisy!:hugs:hugs

Oooh, minnow fishing, now that sounds like fun for a chicken!!

Well, the boy is already a bit larger than the girl. He is also a bit more vocal & 'active'. He is the one who has to nibble my neck & check everything out before settling into snuggle mode. Her? soon as she touches me, the head snakes up against my neck & she feels like she is melting into me!
Maybe this pic will help you all out in guessing which goose is a goose, and which goose is a gander:

Just so you know, the one with the darker gray tried to take a bath in the drinking water...so that one doesn't look quite as fluffy/fuzzy as usual!
