It might help them to know that's she has just disappeared, they can see and understand. Animals are like people, they want to understand and know.
We had a little funeral for Rocks-Anne today. First there was the showing. I presented her lifeless body to the tribe, and then I made a speech, then asked if anyone else had something to say. Hen-Rietta did her little squeak, and Jaffar did a rooster crowing call (as expected) the rest of the birds did their squawking. After the burial, we had a short wake, with meally worms, and two ears of corn 🌽. Rest In Peace dear friend Rocks-Anne.

Thanks for this really helpful suggestion, we do have a manual coffee grinder we use to grind our corn for the hen !
I also wonder if you really have to use pumpkin, or if any variety of curcurbita Pepo would do, or in fact any squash. We don't grow pumpkins anymore because they invaded everything and we didn't eat them, but we grow butternuts, red khuri squash, our local village squash, spaghetti squash, Nice squash and so on. I'm wondering which to chose.
I don't know for sure, but i would think any squash seed would work. I think it isn't mentioned usually because other seeds aren't readily available as a foodstuff.

I think that's perfect.

I like that you had treats for them.

Has anyone dealt with beak injuries before? Siri my favorite of the new Buff Orps injured her beak about 5 days ago. I do not know how she did it but I found her with a bloody beak when it was time to put them up for the night. I cleaned it off and saw and felt a crack on the top of it. She has been able to eat and it did not appear to bother her other then discoloration so I thought it would heal just fine. Tonight when I put her up the tip of the top beak has chipped off. I'm really hoping the rest of the discolored area does not break off because if it does she will end up loosing half of her top beak. At this point I do not think there is anything I can do other then monitor her and make sure she goes to bed with a full crop is there?
Can you use a super glue to make sure she has a beak to eat with?

Beaks grow like nails so I wouldn't worry, but might have issues pecking at food...
