Survived the Night
Everyone made it through the night. Of course before I could get to the coop this morning Lilly managed to briefly corner Maleficent but Mellie got away. Lots of conversations from the coop this morning that could be heard in my bedroom,.

Here they are as I opened the door to freedom this morning. Notice Maleficent runs right to my legs to tell me about everything.

:love :thumbsup
The littles let the bigs exit first? Seems like its going well. :)

It was the proper thing for them to do and a good sign. On a negative sign Lilly was AFTER Mellie as I headed out. Lots of squawking.

Now tonight will be telling. Will they try to go back to their old house, roost somewhere new, or go into the big coop with everyone else. The old house is still there but is closed off and I won't be able to disassemble it until tomorrow.

Well tonight the Littles wanted to roost in their old house. They stood at the door bawking and whining. It was so sad.

I put Mellie in the big coop but I could not get Aurora at the same time. In the end I let them roost in their old house and moved them again to the big coop.

I will be removing the old coop tomorrow morning. They need to get used to the big coop soon.

It is a Good Morning
I caught the littles on camera this morning. Here they are alone up on the roost.

Apparently they let the Bigs leave first and stayed safely roosted. After about 15 minutes of me watching they too got down and headed out with Maleficent leading the charge.

After I released them all to free range, the Bigs found something really interesting and huddled around it. This was too much for the Littles to bear. They had to know what the Bigs were looking/pecking at. It was nice to see the littles moving towards the Bigs instead of just running from them. Of course Lilly did not appreciate that. She kept running them off, one time actually getting a foot on top of Maleficent. Eventually the Bigs gave up their fascination and moved on to other interesting things and life went back to normal.

SUCCESS!

The Littles went to bed in the Big coop tonight!

You can just see them at the far end of the roost. Before anyone asks, for whatever reason, Hattie decided to sleep in a nesting box and I was not messing with any sleeping arrangements tonight!

I took down their coop in the run today. It was so sad went they went to go to bed and their house was gone. Such plaintive bawks you never heard. I hope I never hear them again. It broke my heart.

Once everyone was in the coop complex, I closed all exits and placed a lantern in the big coop. Then my wife and I settled in to watch. After much sadness it looked like the Littles were going to try to roost at the top of the ramp on the porch. Then Maleficent slowly made her way to the door from which the lantern light was coming. In she went. Aurora was not going to be alone outside so in she went. I pressed the button on the automated door and in they were. A few minutes later they were roosted and ready to sleep. And we were celebrating!!
