I know I owe everyone a Chicken Palace tour but somehow I always get swamped with chores. But I can’t resist sharing this because little part as I have the pictures.
Part of the Chicken Palace design is that I have a small storage area so I can keep my chicken stuff. In the storage area I have salvaged an old kitchen cabinet (just 12” deep).

The doors are on the people side and the chickens can enter through cut-out arches in the back of the cabinet. The idea was they would lay their eggs in the cabinet and I can collect eggs from the people side.
Of course I had no idea how the Princesses would view this arrangement. So on their first morning sleeping in the Palace I was anxious to check it out ....

Diana and Elizabeth each picked a separate cubby in the cabinet to lay their egg - looks like it is a huge success!
Fabulous!

How Do You Bring a Large Extended Family Together?

Well the italian way is food, especially pasta. Something amazing and organic just occurred. The Bigs were at the back door begging for food. I grabbed some pasta that we had in the fridge (there are always some there) and threw some out for them.

Well Sansa saw them eating and thought, that must be good. She hopped onto the deck and I tossed some to the far end. Before I knew it, all 6 were eating together, mostly peacefully. Here is the video.

I am so warmed inside right now and proud of them all. Especially Sansa for not being afraid. She may turn out to be a great leader some day. :love
They are looking like a flock!

Here are some eggs from today... I really just wanted to show yall the funny little pointed egg...View attachment 2024122

I've been banging on about Moon and Treacle a bit. The whole business I find not just fascinating but also rather endearing. The two odd ones teaming up.
They both came to the house this morning. Eventually Moon got in the nest box. Treacle really needs to learn that in order to entice the hen into the nest box, he has to stand in it or on it. Messing about on the floor underneath just doesn't work.:D
Moon was in there a long time; a couple of hours at least. I kept checking she hadn't dozed off.
Here she is laying her egg.

Tonight's Roosting

Lots of happenings tonight. Let's start with the roosting.

Phyllis and Sydney on the high roost, Sansa down on main roost. Sansa immediately jumped down. I left her to it. Here is the video of her finally finding a spot to sleep.

So awesome. I need s coop cam badly!

Lilly Takes a Bath

The other fun tonight was Lilly's bath. The first ever for her.

A towel dry and a little TV with Mrs BY Bob and Isabel.

And then a magical blow dry

And then back out on the roost to peck at Hattie! By Lilly's standards a great night altogether.
:gig

Her butt was so loaded with poo a long soak was needed. We waited too long.
Precious!

Me too ACM, but I honestly don’t know how long I’ll have her. She possibly has chronic inflammation of her reproductive organs, which may continue to flare up. I will have to just wait and see. She’s got another week of pills and then I’ll have to observe her carefully. She’s such a sweet, cruisey little thing, she deserves a good long life. She’s already lived twice as long as she would have if I hadn’t rescued her from the battery farm, so I guess that’s a bonus.
For sure!
