Lilly, "What it's it?

Aurora, "I don't know. Hattie found it."

Hattie, "Taste it Aurora"

Aurora, "I'm not tasting it, you taste it"

Hattie, "You taste it Lilly, I just saw you picking through some old poo. It can't taste worse than poo."

Lilly, "Does it have legs? Bugs shaped like that taste awful"

Aurora, "If it had legs it would have run off by now."

Lilly, "Just peck it and see if it moves"

Hattie, "I don't see any legs, someone needs to taste it"

Lilly, " I swear I have seen this before. Let me think"

Aurora, " We don't have time for that. Taste it Hattie!"

Sydney walking by, "It's a corn chip you dweebs"

Lilly, "No, that's not right. I know what it is. What, What, What could it be? I know this."

Aurora, "Yeah, what does she know. You see those baby eggs shes laying"

Lilly, "They are tiny"

Hattie, "Don't pick on her, when's the last time you laid an egg Lilly?"

Aurora, "That's mean Hattie, she's old"

Lilly, "That hurts"

Hattie, "I think she's right"

Aurora & Lilly, "Who?!"

Hattie, CRUNCH!, "It was a corn chip! YUMMY!"

I love these little dialogues, they’re so entertaining! :gig

She sometimes reminds me of a magpie, although magpies don’t have awesome hair-dos! :D

Like these 2 Magpies?

It is a Banner Day at Fluffy Butt Acres!

Thanks to of all hens, Lilly! We have never had this many eggs in one day before.

Lilly laid her monthly egg. I knew something was up today when Lilly was standing on the porch Bakawking angrily. Something made me check the boxes and both were full, Hattie and Aurora were both laying.

Later on Lilly disappeared and I caught her on camera departing the nesting box.

Last year I had 5 hens but Lilly and Patsy were pretty much done laying by the time Maleficent and Aurora started. I don't ever remember getting 4 before in one day.

It's very exciting! :wee

That is exciting indeed! They are obviously quite pleased with the new arrangements. I sometimes think they are more comfortable with the hierarchy, even with the struggles, than they are without it. There is a certain security in being with the top hen, and an expectation that she will protect the flock. Doesn't always work that way, but I think that is the perception.

Anyway, for whatever reason, they are laying! Woot!

Did I tell you all that Queen Victoria laid an egg yesterday? You would have thought it was a golden egg! I was doing my chores out there and opened her coop to clean it, only to find she was in it. She carried on like I was a predator!!! :lau In fact, Pippi came running to her rescue, and then he couldn't figure out what the problem was. She carried on for several minutes and eventually came out, still squawking. It was quite some time before she calmed down and started pecking around. So, I make the next effort to clean the coop, and of course pick up the egg. She came running to the coop looked inside and was horrified! I thought she was having a panic attack! I had to put the egg back to calm her down. I left and came back later to clean the coop. Then I picked up a couple eggs from that nest with no problem. I don't know what she was thinking. She is not acting broody at all, other than that instance.

Hi, folks. Just popping in… I’ve missed this group & thread. I’ve been feeling really lousy, and working really hard since I work for the public school system. Today I stayed home sick, but we just announced school closures.

The flock is still doing well... hard eggs from Dorothy and Ruby keeps doing well. Lots of poopy bums all around, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I love the way they top up on supplies after egg laying.:D On average it takes a bit over a third of what they consume by weight each day to produce one egg.
