We are entering Summer over here. Plenty of good weather left for chicks to be hatched and raised outside within the flock.
I was actually referring to Spring in a "Spring is in the air" kind of way, ie babies... 😜.
I hadn't actually thought about the weather required for chicks. 🤔

One short tonight.:( Young Tack didn't show at roost time. Her brother did and the are usually together. I haven't heard a general alarm call and the rest of the tribe look calm and unworried.
I'm assuming she has a nest somewhere. She has been laying in the coop though so I'm concerned. It's possible she has sat on a community pile......
I hope she'll turn up tomorrow and I'll try to follow her.
Hopefully she is as smart as @featherhead007 's Rocket and has found a nice safe spot under a building somewhere. :fl

Day 8: Smoking Hot!

Sydney waited until after lunch today to come out and she took a long time off the nest today.

Way longer than ever before.

By a lot.

She was off the nest over 2 hours today. Of course the ambient temperature was 88°F (31°C). She did not seem concerned. The eggs however.....

Did I mention the new Broody Cam has sound?

I was able to break from work for a quick visit with Mom to be.

About when do the chicks in the eggs start making sounds?

Crows are a chickens best friend. They drive the hawks off. Crows and hawks are mortal enemies. A crow will eat a chick but never a full grown chicken.

There’s a pair of crows that visit our garden, I think they live in the Eucalyptus behind us. One gets adventurous and checks out the back yard. The girls give it the stink-eye but it doesn’t seem aggressive.

Yall... a bird got eaten right here in my backyard! Of course this happens when I left for one hour  ... I am constantly in and out the back with the chickens, parakeets, or fish.. doing whatever... and I had just put the babies up thank goodness cuz I had them in this little cage on the grass for awhile... poor things would have been traumatized! The only thing I could think it would be is a crow.. I’m wondering if the bird was down eating the seeds I throw out and got caught there..? It’s a little unsettling... 😱

Wait was this a wild bird? Not one of your hens or parakeets was it? (no, no, no :fl)
Very unsettling anyway. :hugs

Oh, it isn't one of the chickens? My mind went to a bad place!

Mine too 🥺

No.. thank God! It was a bird.. but it makes me nervous to see it got eaten right there!

Darn you WhoDat! :smack My tummy dropped to my feet for a minute!

I'm very glad it wasn't one of your girls though :th
