Here is this morning’s Caturday picture for your viewing pleasure.

It’s raining cats and dogs at the moment and is supposed to all day.

It may work, but what happens here is the hen that is getting bullied becomes relctant to go to roost. There comes a point, here anyway, when they either go up a tree, or even into another tribes coop or one of the spares which I close last at night for this very reason.
I don't have much scope for more roosts or roosts in different places. I'm about to split the roost in Tribe 3's coop and make it one either side the same as the other main coops. It's one long roost lengthwise atm.
Maybe if I made a 1 hen roost up where no one else could reach it that might work. Phyllis either roosts first or second. If she is in place and there is no place for anyone else to land in order to push her off that might work.

That would only redirect my problem though. What is going to happen though is that Aurora will focus on someone else then.

Please excuse me for my stream of thought. I'm a pondering as I write.

You carry on. I do it all the time.
It's not an easy problem to sort out if you're a human. One of your chickens would have this cracked by now.

The only hen that would jump her in the order is Sansa. I don't know how much that would help me. Sydney did not care enough to keep 4th from Sansa when she had it she is not going to keep it from Aurora. Frankly I fear that this could induce a reign of terror until Aurora was back to 3 anyway.
Bummer!

Maggie has skills!
It is another awful cold rainy day (and tonight it will go below freezing). Everything feels waterlogged except the inside of the Chicken Palace.
This morning as I went into the Palace all the Princesses mobbed me for treats except Maggie who is definitely off food and treats (which of course worries the hell out of me).
I opened the door to the Palace runs and Maggie charges out straight to one of the uncovered runs (that are both being soaked by the rain pouring down off the roof of the adjacent covered run) and before I can even grab my phone to snap a picture she is pulling a great long worm out of the mud. I swear it was at least 8" long. How did she know it was there? She didn't even spend a second searching. It was like she could see (or maybe hear) exactly where it was underground. Is that possible?
Goooo, Maggie!!!

At it Again

I was watching roosting tonight and all was good. Everyone was in their spot settled and then Aurora entered. She knocked Phyllis off the roost. Phyllis ran into the nest box to get away and out of sight. This time Aurora chased her in and had her cornered. That's when I headed out. As soon as I opened the door Aurora moved away and Phyllis jumped up on the roost. As I stood watching Hattie shimmied down the roost away from me and towards Phyllis. Aurora kept trying to work her back at Phyllis but a quick extension of my arm and she skittered away.

Once Hattie reached Phyllis, Phyllis jumped down and the back up on the other side of Hattie and came the end to be by me. At that point Aurora roosted at the other end and everyone settled.

Looking at the width of Phyllis hips. I think I can build a roost that no one else could use but her. If I get it up out of Aurora's reach maybe that would help her situation.

I may be throwing Sydney and Sansa to the wolves but I think I will start there.
