Reminds me of a time, when I was a popular engineer at Disneyland resort and my daughter had a birthday. I took her to work, and they made a special production (as only Disney could) private room in the auditorium, two waiters, one chef. And the best treat my daughter ever had , besides the horse I bought her.
I have had numerous careers in my lifetime

I am naming her Lucky. Poor Baby... she ate a little bit and drank, but didn’t gorge herself which seems good. The dingleberry from hell is how I would describe her back end. I clipped one growing in feather that bled a bit in cutting it off. She didn’t really seem to mind. She was also unable to preen her back end at all, and the lice were completely Out of control. I rarely bother with gloves, as I’m usually half covered in poop, and have just accepted this as my natural state; I broke out the nitrile gloves for this one. She’s too weak to really evade me yet which helped a lot. I powdered her with some of my precious remaining Carbaryl powder I found hidden in my cargo trailer. Her tail is a little cockeyed now.View attachment 2515248
Here is what she was under... with Zip Tie (of course) modeling in it.

Our current theory is that she was trying to stand on the edge and drink and managed to flip it over on herself. US Size 10 men’s boot also for size reference. I still feel incredibly stupid. I’ve been walking past her for days. Arduinna was jumping on it. She is going to get a lot of treats, I’m sure. She’s sleeping in the chicken trailer, confined to a tall dog crate for now. I didn’t want her getting pushed around too much at Roosting.
Edit to add: or spread any surviving lice. I was ok with the thought of her having been taken by a predator, but the level of guilt I’m feeling right now... I don’t have the words to express it. That this happened under my nose.
That must have been quite a shock when you flipped it back over Kris. More hugs :hugs :hugs
At least now you know to look in unlikely places if anyone mysteriously disappears again.
And, thanks to your experience, so do the rest of us. I wish I had shared my friend's pot story earlier. 🙁

She looks very good considering. Are you certain she was under there the full 14 days?

It is not very hard to imagine how you feel right now. The good news is that she is fine and will recover. You have a lot to take care of. Please allow yourself some grace. The lesson is learned and no one paid with their life. With chickens you normally can't say that. Most mistakes are fatal. :hugs:hugs:hugs

@BY Bob OMG... why didn’t I think of Amazon.ca for the chlorhexadine? It’s pricy, way more than the “human stuff” in the pharmacy (by prescription)... $54 for 16oz. I will order some soon, but with a two week minimum shipping time I’m just going to go with the current plan and see if we can get Roostie some relief and on the mend. I probably didn’t consider it because every other medical pet item I’ve tried to find on there has been a complete failure.
I was able to get a smaller amount for less. Can you get this brand? VetWell 4% spray, 8 oz, $10 US.

I have ordered this as well because I think this might actually be better on some wounds.

Can’t sleep anymore tonight. I can’t wait fir the shipment of chicks to show in town today. I will be increasing my family with new chicks. Gezz, seems like I’m an expectant father, waiting for his babies to be born.:th
Yes I have everything ready for them . Brooder box, heat source, water, chick feed. And a lifetime of love waiting for them in my country paradise!
I will be waiting to hear about them and see pictures! Good luck!

Thank you everyone for you kind thoughts and support.

The worst part was the suddenness. There was no time to get used to the idea that I may lose her. She was just suddenly really unwell. 😦😥

Here she is being uniquely herself. Repelling all boarders from the coop (Except for Deana).

On a related note, Hubby tells me that it was very quiet in the coop when he let everyone out this morning.
I am so going to miss hearing about her antics. She was quite the hen! 😥

How much does she weigh?

I feel your pain as you sympathize with Lucky. But maybe, are you turning your strong compassion for her plight into guilt here though? I'd like to ask you to keep your focus on compassion, and don't turn that energy against yourself. You did a good thing here!

You didn't cause this mishap, you were the one that saved her. At first you didn't find her under there, in that very unlikely place, but then you did!

Remember that accidents are very often unforeseen, and someone always finds a way, sometimes the most unlikely way, to get into trouble. There's a saying to cover that - Murphy's Law? Suppose she went into the woods and a tree or stump came down trapping her but not killing her, like over a woody shrub. Same thing. Maybe you would see it and maybe you would see her beneath it when you searched, or maybe not, as it's such an ordinary-looking feature, a dead tree down.

People who do mean things on purpose to humans and other hapless creatures don't feel any guilt about it. Yet people who really care about others, and do their best to demonstrate it in acts, take on guilt so easily!

Remember - you didn't tip it over on her. :hugs She is Lucky because of you! Probably most of your animals should be called Lucky, including Arduinna. Isn't she Lucky because of you? You could number them: "Lucky 345", "Lucky 62", "Lucky 4000" :lau

Oh @BY Bob 😭 Patsy was the first of your losses I shared reading through this thread in December and it still makes me tear up. There has been many more since in this community (Mal being one of them and most recently Tsuki) and my heart breaks each time for the tenders that have felt so keenly the loss of one of their flock (tribe? 🤭)
I wish I had have been a part of this chicken loving family when Penny passed last November 💜
I'm sorry we weren't around to support you then. Here are some retroactive hugs. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs
