Mine pulled a teamwork about a month ago. Rusty went off by the kitchen window, sounding like a disgruntled broody hen (from a rooster?!). While out looking at him like an idiot, Ir realized I was hearing the same sounds from the area around the coop (Mama was still incubating). I headed out there...without my glasses on...found all the noise was coming from Silver, my lead hen. Babies (7 weeks?) are either in the coop or just outside, not under the Russian olives. Large white patch under one of them. Get closer...white patch is the neighbor's cat, Trouble, who is quite the hunter and not intimidated by chickens, also not willing to leave just yet...i had to get the hose out. NO birds were harmed and the cat just got a bit of an early bath. The teamwork between Silver and Rusty was interesting to see, especially since Silver helped raise Rusty.
Everyone will hate me but a good cat hunting dog sorts problems like this out.:)

I was thinking the same - it is going to get into the 90s again this week and I would rather they were missing feathers now than when it is well below freezing. Very satisfying to see.
A strange thing but feathers don't just keep them warm, they also help to keep them cool. Chickens can arrange their feathers using filoplumes to ensure they get maximum air flow over the skin.

My cat boxed a cat trying to get over my fence last week. I'm thinking of getting this cat a uniform

Well said. What if's don't mean the outcome we want would have happened. It makes you not deal with the present. I've agonized about Queenie's death and my part in it, the way it played out. But maybe it could have unfolded in some other way, and still ended with her death. What if's can help you to see that, maybe the only good thing about them. But nothing can change what has actually happened. So you all here have been greatly comforting, thank you. And you all have helped me to remember the phrase "start where you are." Taking each day as it comes, and taking joy in the present and present company. Love the chickens who are still here with us!

Your beautiful dog (all Golden's are beautiful imo!) has had a good life with you, for sure, and fifteen years is long for a Golden. But knowing that doesn't make losing her less hard, I'm sorry about that. Hugs for you and her! :hugs :hugs

All of the above applies to my chickening apparel...😂
All I can say is you're all very brave. Camo combats, heavyweight, boots, leather gloves in one pocket, walnuts in the other annd that's the lightweight chicken tending kit.
Take no chances is my view. We're not dealing with cuddly toys here you know.
I couldn't help but notice chickens have sharp bits!:p

Hi, folks. Quick update… Ruby continues to get stronger, but it still could not get on the roost herself as of last night. I will keep helping her up. I’m still kicking myself for not tubing sooner. I’m just grateful it seems to be helping her now. Thursday I have a board meeting, so I will put a carrier in the coop in case she’d like to cozy up in there if she can’t get up to the roost. Today was opening day at the school district and we surprised the staff with a flashmob dance! It was hilarious! Unfortunately, I have been in tachycardia for almost 6 hours. It’s making me quite tired and I’m starting to get a bit dizzy and lightheaded. I really don’t want to go to the ER tonight. I’ve never had it last this long, and I’m not sure if I’ll need some sort of intervention to stop it. It usually only lasts about a half an hour.

How is your heart now Michelle? Behaving itself?
My cardiologist told me to go to ER if mine mucks up for more than 30 minutes. I hope you are okay.
