It sounds like they are interested in your feathers. They must want to know that it is still you as your feathers change every day! Theirs do not. I find chickens to be very curious animals. The Buckeye Bunch - usually one or two take a minute or more and explore whatever I'm wearing each day, and I let them. They don't peck at bare legs, except a freckle or mole, or helpfully get a mosquito off me. But clothes- they will pull at any threads, peck at any spots or fuzz, seams are especially interesting, they pull on sewed-on labels, and they explore all the wrinkles formed when I crouch, and printed patterns, they love patterns! Today I had on shorts with a sort of a houndstooth pattern, and after greeting me two began doing a kind of wiping peck/push on the wrinkles. It is definitely friendly, and I like that they are comfortable being close to me. Sometimes in the past they have pecked my bare skin but they stop when I object, they haven't done it in a while. No idea what they get out of the whole ritual, except maybe that's what it is, a greeting ritual.![]()
Happens every few days when the tribe is across the yard from the coop and she can't see them.Yes I thought it was wrong. Where did she get this idea, I've never come across it before.
And how sweet of you, I am picturing you gathering up Sidney!
I think she is beautiful and I'm starting to better appreciate her personality. She reminds me very much of Lilly in some ways. I can see why they are fast friends.Beautiful pose, showing her colors and patterns!![]()
I agree. I am however surprised that Lilly isn't fulfilling that role, I mean she crowed again the other day. Why not go all the way?It doesn't matter, just showing up makes them all quiet down. I think without a rooster they are missing a piece of their natural culture. They need to make the call, and know a rooster is there for them, it seems.
This no longer exists. It is the old prefab coop from back when it was the coop.I'm all disoriented now. Where in the complex is this area?
Little Dakota, laid her first egg today. (Rhode island Red)![]()
