How lovely. Just what the doctor ordered. This morning it was beautiful out so I took the pot of coffee out with me and spent some time with the chickens. I was supervising Bunny and her 8 chicks while they were free ranging in the yard and she is teaching them to eat bugs. It was not long until I had a friend in my lap. Branch my silkie cockerel *strongly suspect he is a boy* was insistent that he was in my lap today. Once up he happily sat down and went to preening both himself and me. I've never had a chicken try to preen me before and it was adorable. After a good grooming session he just flopped over and stretched out and went to sleep. I'm soo happy I have the silkies now. They are different enough that it does not bring on the twinges of pain that Drummies offspring do. I did have Bubba up in my lap once today for a few minutes but he decided chasing grasshoppers was more fun then cuddle time. Once the camera charges I'm going back out later. It's time to get some new pictures of everyone and introduce you all to Bunny's new chicks.
Glad that you are ok too RC. Thank you for the update.Just checking in that you are OK. I have a lot of rain (I am choosing not to inspect the basement as I am sure it will have flooded) but all souls are safe so far.
The storm seems to have stalled so it is just sitting over us dumping rain.
Hoping it moves on soon.
Exactly! You seem to know my dogs well. The dogs keep looking at the chickens and then up, as if saying, "Hmm, they are eating that stuff....have you got anything there for me?"
Love that last pic. Had me giggling. This last group of photo's is of Bubba and the silkies.

Aww, thanks!!!I'm certain she has wonderful days left...the care and love you give her alone already adds up to wonderful.
Thank you, Bob. Today was a better day for Ruby. She was with the flock all day and is roosting with them now. I keep seeing undigested sunflower seeds in her poop, even though I stopped giving them to her. Not sure where she has them stored. I saw Ruby eat wet and dry feed on her own today, which is excellent!I think we all want to know about Ruby. Please feel free to post any and all updates here. I am praying for you both.![]()

Thanks for asking. I think she’s had the same pattern each time… one pretty good day followed by some bad days. I think I helped reduce tge duration of the bad tome by tubing and keeping her indoors last night. I hope she’s warm enough out there tonight (coldest August I can remember in my 51 years living in California). I want her to have as much of a regular chicken experience as possible. So nice she feels good enough for that, did she feel this way so soon after the previous draining? So glad for you both!![]()
