I've been a bit concerned about Deana for a few weeks now.
She hasn't laid an egg since October last year (thank goodness, they were way too big) but lately she has been acting like she wants to. Squatting for me, spending time in the nesting boxes throwing straw over her shoulder, that sort of thing.

Today I squirted a bit of personal lubricant up her cloaca in case something needed help coming out. While giving her treats afterwards I noticed that her comb seemed a bit "rough" for want of a better word. The texture puts me in mind of a magnet covered with iron filings. It is usually more the texture of a rubber glove.

Has anyone noticed a comb with this texture before? Does it signify a problem I should be looking into?.

I am no expert, but several of my chickens have rough combs like that. And they are perfectly healthy. My rooster Jaffar has a very smooth comb (probably because I rubbed all the roughness off of it. (He likes his comb and waddles rubbed) :D

Chill Lilly

Lilly want always the coop level-headed hen you see today. Mrs BY Bob was reading on Sansa for being so mean today. I thought I would remind her how mean her precious little leader used to be. I firmly beleive that someday Sansa will also be the coop calm leader. Until then though she is mirroring Lilly's behavior.

Here is a reminder of how much fun Lilly had terrorizing Maleficent and Aurora.

Hello everyone! Still here , I have my chickens for one extra month-yeah!:)
Still like to ‘listen’ and learn from you all.
I would also like to vote for Sansa! Lilly is beautiful, yet there’s something very sweet looking about Sansa.
Thank you for weighing in. Congrats on the extra month.
