Just got done with the vet and happy to say Chaco is very healthy. I gave her some carrots 🥕 and cleaned up her stall. Heading home to do a chicken check, but gonna stop by the airport, to talk to my friend about the bill he gave me. (Personal business) hey @BY Bob , I love those little ones of yours! You better hide them! I’m im a sucker for beautiful baby chicks

What COVID is demonstrating is the real danger the internet poses. Anyone can pose as an expert on the internet. Any rumor false or true can be spread in a second.

You marry this kind of accessibility to information with the desperation brought on by fear and exacerbated by distrust of the government and scientists associated with the government, you wind up with people drinking bleach and taking goat dewormer.

Then add in a lack of basic knowledge of biology as it is not well taught in schools. A dewormer effects multi-cellular organisms. A virus is smaller than a cell. The dewormer works in the intestinal tract. The virus infects the respiratory system and the blood. There is no mechanism for one to even reach the other let alone effect it. This is not high level science yet it is escaping people.

Conspiracy theories are one thing but science is science. This magnificent world wide web can be used for so much good, bringing chicken lovers together for an example, but it also allows nonsense to persist and spread as if it is real science. Just sad. Education is the key to ending things like this but we no longer train people how to think critically and examine facts for themselves, if we ever did. 😕

Well said. The critical thinking is a huge part.

Now now Alex. You already warned me off those cuties :D

After surviving the holiday season hoarding every egg to be used for baking thanks to only 2 girls laying, I now have a happy problem. 6 of my girls are laying, getting at least 5 eggs a day now, sometimes 6. I just took this photo, and this is after I sold a dozen yesterday, and eating several throughout the week. Oh and the white eggs, they are NOT momma hens like I thought. They are Bread's. If I hadn't saw her lay today's egg myself I would not have believed her to be a white layer. Her momma lays a tan egg, so was expecting some shade of tan or cream not white. I think its time to make a couple more Cheesecakes. Have not baked since New Year's Eve.

I'll say it again: eggnog

Well, I guess it's time to make a update I was praying I wouldn't have to make. Henrietta is gone. She had started hiding her eggs again about a week before I got sick with covid so I suspected she was trying to go broody again. A few days after I was when I was miserable and unable to make it outside my dad had mentioned to me he had not seen her and suspected she was setting again. Roughly a week after that was when Drummie was killed and I knew I had a problem. I was still holding out hope that she was alive just hidden somewhere and I was missing her coming off the nest as I did with momma hen this last time and she would show back up with chicks in tow. Drummie will be gone 3 weeks this Wednesday, which means if she was setting this past week she should have showed back up. She didn't, which can only mean she was the evil coyote's first victim and not Drumstick. So in total before I knew what the culprit was and still blaming hawks I lost 4 chickens to it. Henrietta, Drumstick, Clover and Pumpkin. After we killed that big male last Sunday have not saw any signs of anymore, but we are still watching and hunting. I have noticed a change in my flock again as they are once again relaxed and comfortable in the yard where the attacks were happening and back to spending most of their time there. It also makes Raven and Blueberry even more special to me. Raven is the only Henrietta daughter I have now and Blueberry is the granddaughter of both Henrietta and Toothless.
