Well, a netted run is no protection against ground predators such as dogs, raccoons, etc. What is the planned protection for a ground intruder? Such as neighborhood dogs?

I prefer poached salmon, but poaching is illegal. I wouldn’t want US Fish and Game charging me a fine $$ for a fish

18 months is the usual point at which they get rid of them. Their laying starts slowing down at that point.

Probably coincides with 1st adult moult also. And as they're living in a stressful environment, the odds of them ceasing laying during moult are greatly increased. rather than deal, they get rid.
