Having chickens is such a fowl hobby (Just saying)! All my birds want “Daddy and me” time. It’s difficult to cater to each one of them. And picking and choosing just isn’t fair to the rest! My time with Jaffar was priceless.

Kinda like having kids, huh? They all want daddy (or mommy) time, and you can't play favorites!

Really? I feel like you're pulling my leg, but here goes...

Here's a soft boiled egg and a hard boiled egg for comparison.

Here's an even softer boiled egg.

They look so delicious! I haven't had a soft=boiled egg on toast in ages actually

Awww, you must have been pleased as punch when Cashew did that!!! And they all look so content on Grandma's (?or featherless rooster...ah, sort of) lap!

Oh, yes! I was so tickled!

Thanks so much. It is hard to look back at our beautiful leghorns. I miss them all.

I still dream of getting eggs from Italy and re-establishing the true genetic line here in the states. Maybe someday......

If you do that, Bob, I will want some! Though I’m partial to the Brown Leghorns, any color would do! Such fabulous birds, those Leghorns.

There is a story about a man who went to dig a hole which I can't recall the details of but I bet he didn't have this problem.
I'm taking out all the posts you may have seen in the pictures and planting them along the back fence line. Of course there are lots of bugs and worms.
I dug out one spade full and a chicken came out of the hole on the spade.
Needless to say progress was slow. Some one had poured concrete in the hole just to make life more difficult still.
Three out this afternoon. No beheaded chickens. A result under the circumstances.

A Very Special Day

I once attended a meeting where Scott Hamilton, the Olympic skater, was the key note speaker. He told the story of his life and shared painful stories of the rough times that seemed to happen everytime he had achieved another pinnacle of success. It seemed that every time he reached a new high a tragedy would befall him and his family in some way. It made him angry and almost afraid to reach for new goals.

I'll never forget the simple thing he said which changed his entire outlook on life. What he did not realize was that he was viewing it all backwards. He actually had achieved new highs AFTER each tragedy had befallen him and his family. Every new tragedy would then drive him forward and enabled him to achieve even more.

I have found that this philosophy holds true with chickens as well. I once documented the new joy that each chicken tragedy has brought to us. This was very true with the tragedy that was Elphie's death.

Today is the 6th anniversary of Lilly coming to live with us. Of course she brought Patsy with her. So after a day of mourning our loss, we quickly move to celebrating our queen. The following is going to be a huge list of photos of our two rescued ladies. It will be Lilly heavy as now this is really her day.
