I will miss her most when the tribe and I are having coffee time together in the morning again and she won't be there pecking my leg for her secret walnut. And that little honk of hers. She was very sweet to me.I loved these video's when you originally posted them, and still love them now. I miss seeing photo's of her as she was so pretty, but I know it is nothing to how much you miss her.
Still a positive event. If I remember right, the odds of any hatching were not great to start with.Did the 14 day candle yesterday and mom had to be the one to do the initial candling. 2 of the 3 remaining eggs look wonderful, very active chicks moving around. 1 I am very worried about, I think I may have had it quit on me. I will know for sure in 4 days when I remove the turner, until then I'm holding out a little hope for it. I've also told mom she is trying to curse me and the eggs. The whole time it was "he is a very active chick", "Look how big he already is inside the egg". I told her to quit calling them boys, we are referring to them as girls only. They have not even hatched yet and she already wants to put down a 20 bet that one of them is for sure a boy as it is bigger then the other. I was not happy with her yesterday.
Your right, it is still positive. This early in the year, and with them being her first eggs after a break I doubted any would be fertile. 3 out of 5 were, that is 60%. I did not have that percentage last year with 4 hens laying when I set the first round of eggs. To top it off, we were in a cold snap when the eggs were laid, the first one really caught me by surprise and was very cold when I found it. It could have been partially frozen. If the one did quit, it is not shocking, it happens, even later on in the year I have come to expect a few quitters. What I do not need to happen is have a single chick hatch. If that happens I will either be scrambling around looking for another chick of similar age, or try to place it with someone else that has chicks. If it was being broody raised a lone chick would not be the end of the world, but not ideal when you are brooding them yourself. I was at both tractor supply and rural king this past weekend, neither one had chicks in yet. I've got everything possible crossed hoping for 2 to hatch.Still a positive event. If I remember right, the odds of any hatching were not great to start with.

Wow - stunning! And they are just wild in your backyard? Are they a flock bird or do you just get one at a time.
Oh, and I have to ask as it is Australia. Can they kill you?
