@Kris5902 I'm curious as to your set up for your chicken tractors. (I assume that is what is in the background.) Would you be willing to share?

I think, to briefly return to the roost height conversation, that the Jersey Giants and other Large Heritage breeds have better equipped legs to deal with their mass than my little meatball crosses. Chunk has cow hocks (so he’s a little knock kneed) and was actually on my sausage cull list… but he’s managing ok. A lot of the other meat girl holdbacks also have some leg issues, and I select for strong legs and temperament when deciding who gets to join the main tribe and not make the trip to freezer camp.View attachment 2999016

Would adding some of the large heritage breeds to your bloodline help? (Follow-up if yes, can they be gotten for reasonable?)

Someone asked me if I had a ramp, I don't, but maybe I should put one in.

But that still doesn't make me feel good about the silkies falling or getting pushed off the top roost.

What about a poop board under the roost....and maybe a series of "steps" (platforms) mounted down the wall?

Even more Hard “No” I think about half of those lows are too low even if they were in Celsius… I don’t know how you guys can do it!

Yes something they can fall onto not too far, but then I would bet someone would roost there and get pooped on hahaha

I have lower stepped roosts they hop up with...
