Lilly Update

No word from the vet yet.

I giggled when I typed "vet yet", but my anxiety is growing.

But I am glad to hear that she is feeling better today (I cheated and jumped to the end ).

It's supposed to get down to -20C/-4F (-28C/-19F with wind chill) overnight tonight. I think I'll bring the chicks into the winter resort in the garage tonight.

Still 70-90kmph winds here which is making life challenging. All the chickens are in hiding, no one is pleased by the weather

I hear you're getting am arctic outflow there. This is a crazy weather year for sure.

I am really following this development. Betty is roosted in the main coop again tonight. That's without any blockage or intervention in normal patterns by me. Phyllis is alone in the Cluckle Hut.

Why is Betty acceptable to Aurora and Phyllis is not? I keep thinking about broody Phyllis taking over nest box #1. She has not been welcome in the main coop since then.

I did not end up going to get Ezzie any friends today. I called Rural king this afternoon and Buff orps were not included in this shipment. I then asked if they had any bantams and they did not have any of those either. While pondering this I was spending time with her outside of the brooder, and at 4 days old she is still small. She is also doing amazingly well for a lone chick, never crying constantly, and all the time making those happy soft chick sounds. Rural king will not budge on the 6 chick minimum, but Tractor Supply only has a 4 chick minimum. I think it may be best for her if I wait until Tractor Supply gets their chicks in. That way she will have a good start on growth over them. If I feel that I can not wait any longer I will run to Rural King and work with what they have available.

They're forecasting -35F with wind chill tonight here. The school postponed start time to 10 am tomorrow because of it, too.

I guess we're far enough south from you to not get as cold. And like you, we've got another few months of this to look forward to. Sending you "warm" thoughts, if that will help.
