That wasn’t my amazement. It is flying over 4’. Flying up to 4’ is easy. But even my Roadrunners wouldn’t soar over a 4’ fence from ground level.
I have chickens that fly over my 4' electronet! :he:he Far too many of them. My Ameraucana/EE are the worst offenders (partially because they tend to be the lightest/best flyers)
However, my Dark Cornish..who are compact/short with a decent weight for their size do escape also:confused: I lost a number of my DC last year because they 'escaped' and became predator dinner...the only ones I have left from last year are the 2 that went broody and one that, for some reason, is no where near the aggressive forager as the others were. (Won't use her for breeding!). Their pen had 5' chain link fencing, with 4' snow fencing on top - which is not sturdy! It overlapped 1', so it was a 7' high fence. They still got over! They would fly AT the top of the chain link fence, half land & flap their wings (since they were essentially hanging onto the side of the fence near top), and 'flap/walk' up the snow fencing that would partially squish down....and hop onto the outside. :he:mad::barnie:barnie Whoever said chickens weren't smart really doesn't know chickens! Unfortunately, in their case, they truly were too smart for their own good. :(
