SHRA. Wow, a bottle fed kitten. I have never done that.

SHRA tax - littles out exploring the world

Have fostered kittens, they are like babies, every few hours of round the clock feeding. Also fostered wildlife babies, skunks (which are so darn cute and sweet), and racoons (which are devious little devils), I don't foster wildlife anymore though even tho local wildlife centre would like me too.

Did I make a mistake? I added some lower roosting boards, so it would be easier for the chooks, to get up on their perches. But I think I just made it hard to navigate the way up. :old :idunno They all got up okay, but I don’t know 🤷‍♂️
I have found getting up not as bad as getting down.

I am going to lower my roosts to 3' they are 4' right now.

How high are your roosts right now?

Still Friday here… almost time to close the chickens in. At this rate we are going to have to start having dinner then locking everyone up. View attachment 3085601
And you can see the newest “addition” to the flock here. He has almost completely left the bachelor tribe, but not before they tore out half his neck feathers… Baldy might not be a keeper, but he’s started roosting with the main flock (he doesn’t have his own little tribe yet as Spike and Elios have won) he has learned that (now that Sammy and Dean have accepted his presence) if he doesn’t press his luck by starting fights or aggressively pursuing any hens he can avoid the jerk chickens and has been sort of hanging around closer to them during the days as well.View attachment 3085612
Smart lad 🤗

And more eyes to protect the hens.

It seems that everyone has forgotten who Aurora is. Of all the remaining hens Aurora is by far the most aggressive. Remember the big fight where Aurora tried to knock Hattie off? Maybe if Sansa was still around there would be a fight. But in order of agressiveness prior to all this change you would have found me ranking the tribe in the following fashion.
  1. Lilly
  2. Aurora
  3. Sansa
  4. Sydney
  5. Hattie
  6. Phyllis
Today I would rank them
  1. Aurora
  2. Hattie
  3. Phyllis
  4. Sydney
  5. Betty
Based on this there is no chance of Betty taking over. I think it is more likely that Betty becomes friends with Aurora, hangs out with her, and gains extra food in that fashion. Kind of the power behind the throne.
The horses are like that, the boss mare is boss, but will have a lower cast friend often.

My thoroughbred mare who is bottom of the herd was my old mare's friend so no one bugged her. And both ladies would hang out together.

The old mare's daughter Truly along with Sally and Lulu who all grew up together, hung out and just minded their business.

When the old mare died I expected her daughter Truly to be boss mare.

Not so!!! Sally put the boots to her and became boss, and that made Lulu (who was also bottom of the group) her 2IC as they were always closer together than truly was.

And now my thoroughbred is again bottom of the pecking order and Truly is 3rd.... those two now just do their thing and mind their business.

Animal politics - who knew!
