Do not panic just yet. This is probably her last time off the eggs before they hatch. With everyone of my girls this is the time they take the longest break. They will dust bath furiously multiple times. Stuff themselves and preen for a bit. I have had them spend up to 3 hours off before returning. It is like they know they could be stuck there for 2 or 3 days while the chicks hatch. Now is your chance. Grab a flashlight and go check those eggs. Also hold them up to your ear, gently tap the egg. If they have internally pipped it is very possible to hear soft cheeping or scratching.

Xzit update: ………… she returned to her nesting box, and I brought her back inside the house. Expectant mothers should be as comfortable as possible!

Once you burn off the spines the cactus is edible

Use one of those garden forks or a sturdy forked stick: prongs less than an inch. Push it down into the soil and frame the root in the tines, then pop them out. Blow torch the spine, then can peel

But she's still my baby! She isn't grown up at all. Barely a teenager and definitely not competent in life on earth (my baby alien!).

So, are you trying to tell me that she is wearing too much makeup?
(i.e. the teen that looks like she is 25)



At least she still loves you, unlike many human teens that can't admit they love their parents until they are no longer adolescents in age nor attitude...... or did she just pop by to see if she could borrow the car or money for a date?
