Oh my… I think I’ve been gone for over a week, and I doubt there’s going to be any catching up in the near future. I’m sincerely hoping everyone is doing ok, especially everyone facing Weather and life extremes. ❤️ I have an unfortunate update (if no one has mentioned it here?) on the two little orphaned Goatlings I brought home. They didn’t make it and both passed away that Saturday. Sunday DH and I buried them together a little ways off in the woods from the trailer. I have been feeling quite down since then, and dealing with what is for us “extreme heat” in the mid 30’s Celsius, and swinging back into the 12-16C range with torrential rains, which although quite normal for spring and fall here, isn’t for summer.

So long and short of the story here is I’m struggling quite a bit right now, and might not be on quite as much as I would like. On a positive note, I’ve started standing up some trusses on the house (completely in my own no less!). They crazy weather is delaying haying, so has bought me perhaps a little more time in constructing a tossed together pallet goat shelter, but it also delays my attempt to shimmy up onto the trailer roof to attach the roofing stuff to our RV!

Some pony Sunday Pics to share in the meantime:

“OMGosh look at that rack! Hunni stop, back up! We have to get pictures of him! Oh wow, there’s two” The keys to hunting on the farm here 1: wear plaid, not camo 2: always say “Hi deer, you’re such a pretty deer” while approaching 3: drive the loudest rattling diesel vehicle you can (makes you blend right in!) yes, that’s one very chubby 4point buck!View attachment 3173529
And some forest goat time, because when it’s crazy hot the deepest nearby shade is over here and it keeps everyone safe from my goat shelter building activities:

So sorry to hear about the babies. :hugs That would give your mental health a beating.

Bella. She is on my lap!!!
:love
Technically she is half on the arm of my chair and half on my knee.
She is soooo soft!
Her beard looks a bit ratty and I thought maybe Bernadette was plucking it. She may be, but watching Bella drink she sprays water everywhere including all down her beard so I am thinking that may be the cause.

She reminds me of my Dorothy 🤗

Tripod camper jacks (the really old hand crank ones) a rake and shovel allow you to turn a shade tarp (not very waterproof, but hey it was on hand) into a quick tent arrangement for sudden rainstorms. 😂 my curvy girls are really enjoying their secluded little coop and run arrangement. I put them in the shady jar part of my yard area, then rigged up a little tarp awning, much like you describe. The “slightly worn” tarp with holes still managed to hold enough water to almost collapse the tie outs. I’ll have to snap a picture. I’m honestly considering writing a book about building things out of trash! 😂
That would be interesting, seriously :)

I bought what was described as a 100% cotton fitted sheet, one of the silk kind. It felt awful too sleep on, I felt like I was in a sauna. It comes in very handy for my chickens as a sun screen and surprisingly it keeps water out of the run as well. So I honestly would like to see what you do. 🙂

That is a good use for your sheets!

This is Stormy. She's the only one who will get on my lap for treats. Usually it's spinach leaves.

Today I brought them Bug Snack, aka, Japanese Beetles, which are just coming out to mate and eat (destroy). I sat down for a rest, and she jumped up on my lap. I explained that I didn't have any spinach today, that today's treat was Japanese Beetles. She stood there for a moment, and I thought she was going to sit down. (A first!) Instead, she pooped on me. (Also a first...)

I wondered if that was a comment on my not bringing her some spinach...

It is a pretty tree. When it is not in full bloom I love it. It provides great shade and most importantly, where those 3 mimosa's are, we have lost none of the back yard due to flooding. Those roots hold. We are almost 2 weeks into them blooming, if I'm lucky another 2 weeks and hopefully its done.
I hear ya on the allergies... I am beginning to think I am allergic to the chickies. All weekend I have been in the barn around them all day and I am so stuffed up hahaha. Likely it's the Poplar trees though - reordered my Omnaris allergy stuff 😊.
