Gucci's trim is really only 1/2 done. Mrs BY Bob was not aggressive enough trimming so we changed spots. I got her right side done pretty well but Gucci was fussing during the left side and let out a screech. Well that was that.

"Stop it your hurting her" was Mrs BY Bob's response to the screech and I was no longer allowed near her.

It has been not quite 2 weeks since her last trim. Amazing how fast the feathers grew back. Gucci is 0.678 kg (~1.5 lbs) and has gained 0.1 kg (~0.2 lbs) during that time. She feels much bigger when you hold her than she has in the past. She is about 1/2 the size of Phyllis and Betty.

Hector is officially in you "you randy idiot" faze. Yesterday morning he tried catching Pear. No dice. Last night he chased after her 3 separate times. She took him through the obstacle course of under the olive branches, over another branch, through the babies (or the adults still outside), around a bush, over the cinder blocks (he plowed into them), and lat attempt she slipped into the coop (I tried closing the door in his face, but wasn't fast enough) and hopped onto the nest boxes. He can jump up to the top....after pacing 15 laps around the interior of the coop, back outside 7 times to pace around, then back inside to pace back and forth in front of the boxes several times (jumble all the various pacing places together and mix thoroughly to find his trail). Obviously he got foiled again. He tried chasing Storm outside (she's been merciless with him at roosting time: 6 feet!). She looped a tree, came up behind him and pecked the back of his neck....repeatedly. He tried chasing Nellie. Cheetah was already roosted so just sent up the disgruntled bok bok and stayed put. She eeled through the olive branches and Hector plowed into them again. He caught Twirp on the floor of the coop, managed to get on her, only to have her squirm out from under him, whirl around and jump in his face, talons extended. She looked like Karate Kid with the Flying Crane (?) move. Result: his wattles were bleeding, he's back outside trying to tidbit for me and she's settling into her roosting place with nary a feather out of place.

In the past week I've seen (or heard) all of his girls and at least 2 of the younger girls pitch a fit because he's grabbed and they're not ready. I can see why the waterer is considered a prospective mate in certain other tribes....I swear he's going to try a rock or a tree stump soon...

Young idiot needs to be courting the ladies, not me, and the hormones are....:he

Poor girls. Maybe they should start working together and teach him some manners.

Poor girls. Maybe they should start working together and teach him some manners.
The big girls are. The younger ones are still kinda lost on the whole thing, but Silver spent most of yesterday morning with them and was with them again last night. (Can't speak for the rest of the day as we weren't home). Twirp is about half the size of Hector, yet has ZERO back down from him. Pear leads him around, making him look like a gangly giraffe attempting a steeplechase through the woods, and Storm won't let him within 6 feet of her without taking a moment to pound him. For the most part he's left the other ladies alone, unless he finds them by themselves (Thing even then). Not sure if he's tried the others or hasn't worked up the courage to try yet. Cheetah hasn't done anything to him yet. The younger trio are starting to emulate Hector.....Young roosters and the stew pot .... like teenagers and kicking them out of the house........patience, patience, patience....

Coop isn't open yet and Cheetah is doing all the crowing.....

OMG, what a great and hilarious description...I could see it unfold in my mind!! (probably partially because I have had young idiot roosters, too!) Part of the hilarity, I have to admit, is because for once it wasn't ME having to deal with it directly....stressed girls...poor things!

This story, if you made video to go with it, would have fit perfectly on teh foghorn leghorn show!!! :lau :lau

This is for you. :hugsPatience, patience, patience. He WILL grow up and learn to be a gentleman!

Hmmmm...I don't think there was enough trimmed. The fact that you still have to point out where the eye is says it all :gig :gig

I still think she looks like a Vegas show girl with those feather 'fan' things....she is absolutely stunning!

I suspect that the feather growth/replacement will continue to be FAST until they finish their last juvenile molt....I swear the coop where my 'teens' are looks like there has been a massacre just 24 hours after cleaning it out! Feathers everywhere...yet none of them appear to have a feather out of place. They are constantly growing...and hence growing & shedding feathers.

:love :love Looking @ Mrs By bob holding Gucci in that first pick....:love...better be careful, Phyllis might get jealous. I suspect in no time at all you will have 2 REAL house chickens, now that quarantine is off. Maybe keeping those head feathers is a good thing...she won't be able to find her way to the door and become a 'couch chicken'...and watching Star Wars with Phyllis and Mrs BY Bob will be a mute point because she won't be able to see the TV !:lau:idunno

Yes you pretty much have to take it right down to their scalp - I leave a mowhawk for my gals to give them a punk rock chick look 😆

Let them out....watch to the end

I always enjoy watching the 'mass exodus' when I let them out of the coop in the morning...and when I let them out of the run when I get home from work. Such exhuberance to start the day...or to be able to go out & explore! Sometimes I think we humans could learn a thing or two from them. But then........
we see the idiot 'teen' roosters, and I think 'Na, not so much' :gig

I really look forward to seeing your pics and videos!❤️
