Blame the dog owner and don’t beat yourself up. That’s such a sad situation. :(
I'm going to be reasonable. I will simply ask that she be tied back up, I do not want her stepping a foot back in my yard. She has now killed once, she WILL do it again given the opportunity. I also think it is fair to be compensated for the loss of Granny. Yes my chickens are pets foremost, but I also sell eggs and have several egg customers. I just lost a brand new laying cinnamon queen.

Lulu’s First Egg!
Today Lulu laid her first egg. It is pale blue and totally perfect.
It is also very tiny! It weighs 28.7g (about an ounce). The last egg laid in the Chicken Palace (Dotty) was just over double the size.
The whole event was quite sweet. She took the best part of two hours selecting which nest box to use. She went in and out of the upper and lower levels with Bernadette in tow.
When she eventually settled on the best spot Bernadette stood outside shouting the whole time!
I am a little sad she isn’t my baby any more, but still very proud of her tiny egg. Maybe I will have a miniature egg sandwich for lunch today.
Congratulations Lulu.

Thank you Lulu for your contribution to lunch ❤️

Everyone keep one of my red girls in your thoughts. I'm in full blown emergency mode right now with her. The people that are renting the house down at the barn got a new pup 2 months ago. They have kept her tied up until this evening. She got ahold of one of my girls. She is alive, but is in obvious shock and has a dime size puncture hole on her back, it does not look too deep though. Mom is working with the hen, I'm going out to do a head count on everyone else, and dad is on his way to have a not so nice talk with her owner. I'm ready to shoot the dog.
I'm so sorry. This is an inexcusable event and not something you should have to deal with. We are praying for your girl.

Dog Rant.
I apologize to anyone who loves dogs but i have heard this story too often. Bad owners make bad dogs and nothing is responsible for more chicken deaths than bad dogs. They kill indiscriminately with no thought to eat what they have killed. They do it for fun in mass.

What does “get up in the seats” mean for a hint? This one I have no idea but I’m guessing a lighter bird, since you say they could fly out. And not the Rascals, because you would want to be around while they integrate. So Betty?
Looks like Aurora!
It was Aurora. I will take a picture of the seats in the pool tomorrow. There are built in seats so you can sit and not have to swim.

Rant all you like, I have sent many a dog to the pound here, most of my neighbours don’t like me, but when a mare and foal get run through the fence the Vet bill very high!

I worry so much about dogs and my chickens, thankfully my neighbours have learnt to not let their dogs run free.

Mr Pompei is not learning to roost in the hen house, he is following Misty’s lead and flying up on the door top. So I have 2 chickens to move off the door top, Whiskers to move from the shavings into the hen house and Marty to remove from the window.

Bed time drama….

After the moves, not sure what Marty is doing? Is she wanting to jump down??

You are correct once dogs learn of a new play thing they will be back. Poor granny how traumatic, I am sending hugs - oh how terrible.

Yes you will be compensated, they need to pay the replacement of a valuable hen. 😢😢😢😢😢
