Awww now that's what I loooooove to see - and you know how I love a barred rock :)

I absolutely LOVE the comb on that one hen (I hope it's a hen as I love her colour also - an appaloosa chicken!).

It's sad that they have to grow up - they are so cute as chicks :love
The barred is a coocoo marans rooster named hades

Bed Time Drama - what's up today?

Well there is a full moon coming into phase so maybe that's it. But Henny Penny started with the alarm call in the Hen House after my Mum put everyone to bed and that set everyone off, jumping all over the place - I was so worried poor Curly or Fluffy would get knocked off the roost - but Curly is smart and hugs the wall. I had a quick count- 12 hens and 1 Roo.

Mr P tried to beat anyone who jumped up with him and Curly, off the top of the box. Then Buttercup tried to fly through the window - silly bird! She ended up flying up on top of Mr P who was not impressed! Through it all Curly hugged the wall for dear life!

Finally everyone is quiet - and Buttercup roosted on the roost tonight rather than in her box. The 2 Grey Ladies and Henny Penny stole Blanche and Penelope's spot, but Blanche did manage to roost on top with Mr P and Curly - initially Mr P was furious that she would dare to roost with him and Curly - he tried to beat her off but she wasn't having any of it! She just persevered!
12 hens and 1 Roo - finally settled down.

I wouldn't care, except for those wee silkies, Curly and Fluffy each want to roost up top - but they fly like a brick ! I worry they will injure themselves. I will need to take Bob's advice and not watch I guess....

Furious! Rats! Drats!

So is this what they were all squawking about earlier? Oh I just cannot wait to get home in the Spring and get rid of those rats. Making me so furious that I am our here and can't do anything about them. These two look all cozy.... I am going to call them Frik and Frak.

So I am not worried about them attacking the kiddos but they do carry all sorts of 'fowl' diseases (like how I spelt that instead of foul? haha)
